About My Dance Academy (SGDA): The Next Generation
At the academy, we prioritize the internal joy of dance over rote memorization. Whether a student is preparing for a formal stage recital or performing in a school festival, my focus remains on nurturing their confidence and abhinaya (expression), ensuring they truly fall in love with the art.
Passing on the discipline and beauty of Bharatanatyam is a responsibility I hold dear. My teaching methodology is deeply rooted in the training I received at Kalakshetra, but I adapt it to ensure every student—regardless of age—feels the 'shanti' (peace) that dance brings.
We focus on a balanced development. For beginners, this means establishing a strong foundation in 'talam' (rhythm) and body posture. As students progress, we layer in the complexities of 'varnam' and the delicate nuances of storytelling. The goal is never just to finish a syllabus; it is to equip students with the skills to express themselves on stage.
I believe performance is a vital part of learning. My students have had the opportunity to perform on prestigious platforms, including diplomatic events and local temple festivals. Seeing them grow from shy beginners into confident performers who can command a stage is the greatest reward for a teacher.
If you are looking to start your own dance journey or enroll your child, we offer classes that mix rigorous technique with a supportive, creative environment. Classes are designed to be therapeutic, building physical strength and mental focus while preserving the rich heritage of Indian classical dance.
