Sacred & Ancient Spaces: Heritage Photography Prints
Centuries of history preserved in light and stone. From ancient temple structures to sacred festival glows, I capture the timeless spirit of Karnataka's heritage sites.
A wider view of the ancient Shiva temple mentioned in the Ramayana. This aerial shot captures the temple and the monolithic rock it sits on against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset.
The Shri Parashurama Theme Park in Udupi, glowing against the twilight sky. This shot was taken shortly after its inauguration, capturing the architectural beauty of this new landmark.
The Laksha Deepotsava (festival of a lakh lamps) at the Udupi Krishna Mutta. The two main temple chariots are beautifully illuminated, surrounded by a crowd of devotees.
About Sacred & Ancient Spaces
When I photograph these sacred spaces, I prioritize the setting as much as the structure. Whether it is an aerial perspective of a temple perched on a cliff or the golden glow of lamps during the Laksha Deepotsava, my goal is to reveal the site’s true relationship with its environment, rather than capturing a standard architectural shot.
My approach to heritage photography is slow and intentional. It requires being on-site at the right moment, often waiting for the light to hit the stone just right or timing a shoot to catch a festival like the Laksha Deepotsava at Udupi Krishna Mutta.
The Method
I use a combination of drone photography and traditional ground-level shots to tell the full story. For instance, capturing the ancient Shiva temple in South Canara required an aerial view to reveal how the monolithic rock formation sits within the landscape, connecting the architecture to the mythology of the region.
Quality and Care
These prints are designed to last. I use archival cotton rag or museum-grade paper for all heritage prints to ensure the fine textures of weathered stone and the deep shadows of dusk are reproduced accurately.
Choosing Your Print
- Aerial Perspectives: Best for large format prints where the scale of the landscape matters.
- Festivals: These work beautifully in medium to large sizes to capture the intensity of the light and the intricate details of the chariots.
- Static Ruins: Ideal for black and white treatment if you want to emphasize texture and the passage of time.
Each print is signed by me, shipped securely, and ready for professional framing. Whether you are looking to bring the history of Udupi or the mystery of ancient ruins into your office or living room, I ensure the print quality reflects the patience put into capturing the original image.

Hi, I'm Pratap. I grew up in Bangalore and have spent years exploring the backroads of Karnataka. I don't just photograph these ancient sites; I observe how they sit within the landscape, waiting for the right light to reveal their story.
