Cinematic Aerial Views of South India's Sacred Heritage
I capture the architectural grandeur and spiritual soul of South India’s temples from the air. See these ancient sites from perspectives never seen before.
The majestic Murudeshwar temple in Karnataka, with the world's second-tallest Shiva statue overlooking the Arabian Sea. This is one of the most breathtaking sights on the Karnataka coast.
A journey to Ram Setu at Dhanushkodi, the last land of India. This video, created for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha, traces the path of Lord Rama's journey to Lanka.
The serene and sacred Sringeri Sharadamba Temple on the banks of the Tunga river. The video showcases both the colorful gopuram and the ancient stone architecture of the main shrine.
An aerial view of the magnificent Vijaya Vitthala Temple in Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The shot highlights the sprawling complex, one of the richest architectural monuments of the Vijayanagara Empire.
Anjanadri Hills in Hampi, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The drone shot captures the winding steps up the rocky hill to the temple at the summit.
The journey to Sigandur Chowdeshwari Devi Temple, including the unique ferry ride required to reach this sacred site in the Sharavathi backwaters.
An aerial view of the Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameshwaram, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. The drone captures the temple's massive scale against the coastline.
An "Earth Zoom" effect into the Murudeshwar temple, dramatically revealing the iconic Shiva statue from a satellite view.
The magnificent architecture of the Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. I used my drone to capture the intricate details of the towering gopurams at sunrise.
A top-down drone photograph of the Shri Ram Temple at Dhanushkodi, showing its isolated location at the tip of the land.
About Sacred South: Temples & Heritage Sites
Flying drones near ancient heritage sites requires more than just technical skill. It demands respect for the sanctity of the location and strict adherence to local permit regulations. When I film these sites, I coordinate with local authorities to ensure we get those cinematic sweeps—like the sunrise over a gopuram or the layout of an Hampi complex—without causing any disturbance to the peace or the pilgrims on the ground.
How I Approach Heritage Filmmaking
Aerial footage provides a context that ground-level photography simply cannot capture. Whether it is the sprawling stone complexes of Hampi, the isolated geography of the Ram Setu at Dhanushkodi, or the intricate carvings on the Sringeri Sharadamba temple, my goal is to highlight the scale and the story of the architecture.
The Gear and The Process
I use the DJI Mavic 3 Pro for its ability to shoot in 10-bit D-Log, ensuring that colors on stone architecture and sunset skies remain vibrant and true to life. For tighter, more dynamic fly-throughs around structures, I rely on the DJI Avata 2. Every flight is pre-planned to ensure we capture the best golden hour lighting while strictly following safety protocols. Being a DGCA-certified pilot is not just about the license; it is about knowing how to fly responsibly in sensitive areas.
What You Get
- Cinematic Perspectives: High-resolution aerial shots that reveal patterns and layouts invisible from the ground.
- Technical Precision: Use of flat color profiles for post-production flexibility and high-frame-rate options for smooth slow-motion sequences.
- Regulatory Awareness: I understand the documentation and permissions often needed to fly near historic or public religious sites, saving you the headache of last-minute logistics.
Whether you are documenting a restoration project, promoting a temple tour, or capturing the beauty of a heritage property, I focus on the story first. My films are not just about showing the location; they are about capturing the reverence and the history carved into every pillar.
Srihari Karanth
I’m Srihari, a filmmaker based in Bengaluru who believes the best way to appreciate our heritage is from above. Whether it’s tracing the journey of Ram Setu or filming the sunrise over a temple gopuram, I use my drone to reveal the scale and detail you just can't see from the ground.
