Coastal Fine Art Prints: Long Exposure Seascapes
Authentic long exposure photography capturing the rhythmic pulse of the Karavali coast.
A classic Udupi sunset with dramatic sun rays breaking through the clouds. The long exposure technique softens the waves, creating a glassy reflection of the vibrant sky.
The rocky, pristine shoreline of a beach in the Andaman Islands. The unique geological formations create a fascinating foreground against the turquoise water.
A calming video of waves gently rolling onto a beach at sunset. The soft, warm light and rhythmic motion of the ocean create a feeling of pure serenity.
A peaceful sunset over the backwaters of coastal Karnataka. The still water perfectly reflects the colorful sky, creating a symmetrical and tranquil scene.
The sun rises over the rocky coast of South Goa. Using a slow shutter speed, I captured the movement of the water as it flowed around the rocks, adding a sense of motion to the tranquil scene.
The textures of the rocks on the shoreline are highlighted by the warm, golden light of sunset. This is a classic example of capturing the magic of golden hour by the sea.
A moody, monochrome long exposure of the sea at Gokarna from 2017. The dark clouds and soft water create a dramatic and contemplative atmosphere.
A traditional fishing boat rests on the sand at Gokarna after sunset. This long exposure captures the peaceful end of a day, with the twilight colors painting the sky.
A long exposure shot taken during the golden hour, where the receding tide leaves a soft, misty effect over the rocks. The warm light creates a peaceful and serene mood.
A lone figure stands on the rocks against a vibrant sunset in the Andaman Islands. This image captures a moment of solitude and connection with the vastness of the ocean.
About Coastal Chronicles: Seascapes & Long Exposures
I do not just point and shoot. To get that silky, dream-like texture on the waves you see here, I use long exposure techniques that require a sturdy tripod, precise timing with the tide, and often waiting hours for the light to hit the horizon just right. These are not just photos, they are physical artifacts of the time I spent on the shore waiting for the sea to tell its story.
Photography is my way of slowing down. My work on the Karnataka coast, especially around Udupi, Gokarna, and the quieter stretches of the Karavali belt, is about stripping away the chaos of the modern world. When I set up my camera, I am looking for the intersection of land and sea where the water turns into a mist.
Why Long Exposure?
Capturing these images involves more than just a camera setting. I use neutral density filters to block light, allowing the shutter to stay open for seconds or even minutes. This turns crashing, jagged waves into a smooth, serene surface. It changes how you perceive the ocean. It moves from being a loud, intimidating force to a calm, contemplative one. I capture this because it reflects the peace I find when I am out there, far from the city noise of Bangalore.
The Prints
I believe an image does not truly exist until it is printed. You cannot experience the depth of a shot on a smartphone screen. My prints are handled with the same care I give to the shoot itself:
- Material: I use archival, museum-grade fine art paper (100% cotton rag or alpha cellulose) to ensure your print lasts for generations, not years.
- Longevity: Rated for 70+ years, these are acid-free, gallery-quality pieces.
- Finish: I prefer matte or lustre finishes to eliminate the glare you get with standard glossy photos. It makes the texture of the rocks and the softness of the water pop.
Whether you are looking for a piece for your home or office, these prints are meant to bring a sense of the coast into your space. They are shipped rolled in reinforced tubes to ensure they reach you without a single crease. If you have a specific wall space in mind, let me know, and we can discuss the best sizing to make the image fit your environment.

I'm Pratap. I grew up in Bangalore, but my camera lives on the Karnataka coast. I am not a studio shooter; I am the guy sitting on a wet rock in Udupi at 5 AM waiting for the light to turn right.
