Participant Creations at The Pottery Lab
You do not need an artistic background to make something beautiful. Take a look at the unique plates, cups, and bowls crafted by participants in my workshops.
Look at these beautifully painted and glazed plates. These were all created by participants in one of our plate painting workshops. The final results are always so impressive and full of personality.
About Participant Creations
It might look like the work is finished the moment you set down your tools, but there is a quiet four-week process that follows. I take your raw clay pieces, dry them, fire them in the kiln, glaze them, and fire them again to make them food-safe. You do not just walk away with a memory; you come back to collect a sturdy, functional piece you can actually use in your kitchen.
Pottery is often seen as a technical skill that takes years to master, but in my Pali Hill studio, I see people walk in nervous and leave with something they are proud to display. Whether it is a wobbly mug or a perfectly painted plate, these pieces represent the joy of slowing down.
How we make it happen
My workshops are designed for complete beginners. If you have never touched clay, you are in the right place. We focus on two main styles here:
- Hand-building: Using pinch, coil, or slab methods to create functional stoneware. This is perfect for those who want a tactile, relaxed experience where you can chat while you create.
- Wheel Throwing: This is the 'crazy and calming' experience. It requires more focus, but nothing beats the feeling of centering a lump of clay on the wheel and watching it rise under your fingers.
Why the process matters
We do not rush. Because we use high-fire stoneware clay, every piece goes through a specific journey. After you shape your bowl or platter, it needs to dry slowly to prevent cracks. My team handles the technical finishing, trimming, and the two kiln cycles (Bisque and Glaze firing). This is why it takes about four weeks to get your finished ceramic ware. It is a slow, patient process, and it teaches us to value the final result.
Whether you are looking for a weekend pottery workshop in Mumbai or a group session for friends, these creations show that art is for everyone. You just need to show up, get your hands a little messy, and let the clay do the rest.
