I believe dance is a conversation between the artist and the music. My students go from learning basic footwork in the studio to performing at festivals like Rivaayat, and I guide them through that entire journey.

This is the invitation for 'Baithak', an intimate performance showcase for my students. It's a wonderful opportunity for them to present their skills in a traditional setting with live tabla and vocal accompaniment.

Glimpses from our 'Baithak' performance, where my students showcase their learning. You can see solo, duet, and group performances, each demonstrating the 'sawal-jawab' or interactive dialogue with the musicians that is central to Kathak.

I am so proud to share that my young student, Myra, will be performing at the Bal Kathak Mahotsav. This event is a special stage for promising performers under the age of 14, and I look forward to her performance.

An invitation to the 'Rangmanch Pravesh' or debut solo performance of my student, Kshama. This is a significant milestone in a dancer's journey, marking their arrival on the professional stage after years of dedicated training.

My student Iulian, who came all the way from Romania to learn Kathak. His dedication is truly inspiring, and it was a joy to see him perform on stage for the first time at our Rivaayat Dance Festival.

A powerful moment from the Abhiratna Awards in 2024. My senior students are on stage in vibrant red costumes, capturing the grandeur and grace of a traditional Kathak group performance.

My students performing a synchronized group piece on stage. Dressed in matching costumes, they execute the movements with precision, showcasing the results of their dedicated practice.

A group of my students performing a choreography set to Jhaptaal, a rhythmic cycle of 10 beats. Their coordinated movements and colorful costumes create a beautiful visual on stage.

It was a pleasure to recreate this group choreography that I learned from my Guru, Smt Rajashree Shirke, almost 20 years ago. Here, my senior disciples perform the piece, keeping the tradition alive.

My students performing a pure dance sequence in Teentaal. The focus here is on the precision of their footwork, the clarity of their movements, and their synchronization as a group.

About From the Studio to the Stage

Getting on stage is a commitment that goes beyond just learning steps. For my students, this journey often culminates in 'Rangmanch Pravesh', their debut solo performance. I focus on preparing them mentally and technically for the stage, ensuring they handle the pressure of live musicians and the audience with grace, not just perfect footwork.
