From the Studio to the Stage
My students get regular opportunities to perform, from intimate 'Baithak' settings to large-scale annual showcases like 'Rivaayat'. I also prepare and guide students for prestigious festivals and their 'Rangmanch Pravesh' (debut performance).
The Soul of Kathak: Abhinay & Music
Kathak is more than just steps; it's about telling stories (Abhinay) and connecting with music. In my classes, we explore expression through thumri and kajri, and I share my own journey of learning Hindustani vocals to deepen the performance.
My Riyaaz & Kathak Technique
This is a look into my personal practice (riyaaz), where I work on the core elements of Kathak. It includes intricate footwork, mastering chakkars (spins), and exploring complex rhythmic compositions (bandishes) in various taals.
Choreography & Collaborations
I love the creative process of choreographing new pieces, from traditional Kathak to fusions with Sufi music. This includes creating work for my dance company, collaborating with other artists, and choreographing for professional projects like the Amazon Prime web series 'Dil Dosti Dilema'.
My Roots: The Guru-Shishya Tradition
I am a product of the Guru-Shishya tradition, having learned from my Guru, Smt Rajashree Shirke. I strive to pass on this legacy of respect, continuous learning, and dedication to the art form to all my students.
