Meet Your Punjabi Aunty: The Pikkle Shikkle Story
I am Gurdeep Kaur, and I started this journey at 60 to share my family's authentic Punjabi pickle recipes with all of you.
Someone caught me in action explaining my Lemon Crush. I always say, "Ek baar try karke dekho, guarantee hai aapko pasand aayega!" (Try it once, I guarantee you'll like it).
Packing up an order for a happy customer at the market. It brings me so much joy to share my food with all of you.
A happy moment at my stall. I love chatting with everyone who stops by, sharing stories and, of course, samples of my pickles.
Here I am, all smiles, while serving samples at a market. Letting people taste the difference is the best way to show the quality of my homemade pickles.
Another happy moment serving customers. The cooler box you see keeps my pickles fresh, especially the oil-free ones that need to be refrigerated.
My husband, Ekbal Singh, helping out at the stall. We believe in giving the best customer experience, from tasting samples to home delivery.
We are a team, and you'll often find my husband helping customers and managing the stall. It's a true family effort.
It was lovely to be featured by a digital agency. It's always nice when people appreciate the story and hard work behind Pikkle Shikkle.
Here we are at another event. We love setting up our stall and meeting new people who are passionate about good, honest food.
Posing at our stall with my son. This business is a family affair, and their support means the world to me.
About Meet Your Punjabi Aunty
I always say, ek baar try karke dekho (try it once). You can visit my kitchen in Nagavarapalya to taste the pickles before you buy. I believe you should know exactly what you are eating, which is why I make everything myself with no artificial preservatives or colours. If you stop by, we can chat about which spice level suits you best.
When I turned 60, I decided that retirement was not for me. My kitchen became my playground, where I started digging up old family recipes to make traditional Punjabi pickles and jams. I wanted to bring that 'Tadka Punjab Da' taste to Bangalore, making sure that every jar feels just like the 'ghar ka achaar' I grew up with.
My process is simple and honest. I source fresh, local vegetables and fruits and use traditional sun-drying methods. You won't find any chemicals, fake colours, or preservatives in my jars. Whether it is my spicy mango pickle, the popular lemon crush, or the crunchy mixed vegetable pickle, each batch is made with care and patience.
My husband, Ekbal, and I love meeting people at Bangalore flea markets. It is the best part of this business—getting to share samples and hear your stories. If you are looking for something specific, like an oil-free option or a gift hamper for a friend, just reach out. I am always happy to help you pick the right flavour.
