Our Random Experiments and Maker Projects
At Paper Crane Lab, we are a bit of a jugadu gang. This is where we dump our experiments, from stop-motion reels to 3D-printed gadgets and whatever else we're tinkering with this week.
A random moment of art at PCL. This beautiful, colorful pattern was created during a chromatography experiment, where we separate the pigments in ink using a solvent.
A fun mechanical grabber made with laser-cut parts and fasteners. It's a simple yet effective demonstration of linkages and levers, a key concept in mechanical engineering.
A reminder for our "Home Chemistry" workshop for homeschooled students. This image shows the beautiful results of marble paper art, made by learning about hydrophobic substances.
Discover the art of intaglio printmaking in our Tetrapak workshop. You'll learn to carve designs onto recycled tetrapaks and use a mini 3D-printed press to create your own mini prints.
Our Woodworking 101 workshop poster, where you can make your own key holder. This beginner-friendly session covers sanding, drilling, and assembling your creation.
A stop-motion animation created during one of our workshops. We love seeing participants use their newfound skills to tell their own creative stories.
Behind the scenes at our stop-motion animation workshop. Participants had a great time using board game pieces and other props to create their videos.
A close-up of the setup for our stop-motion animation workshop. A smartphone is all you need to start bringing objects to life, one frame at a time.
Two participants collaborating on their stop-motion project. Our workshops are designed to be fun, social, and a great space for creative teamwork.
Another behind-the-scenes shot from our stop-motion workshop, showing a campfire scene being set up with paper cutouts.
About Additional Work & Creations
You have seen the photos, now come over to our Indiranagar lab and actually build these things. Whether it is picking up a soldering iron for the first time or setting up a stop-motion scene with board game pieces, we provide the tools, the space, and the guidance to help you make it happen.
We believe the best way to learn is to break things, fix them, and then build them better. Our Indiranagar lab is not a quiet classroom. It is a messy, vibrant space where we let our inner enthu cutlets loose.
Projects We Love
- Stop-Motion Animation: We use everyday props like board game pieces and paper cutouts to tell stories. If you have a phone, you have a studio.
- Printmaking & Paper Art: From chromatography experiments to Tetrapak printmaking, we show you that you do not need expensive gear to create art. We love using simple chemistry to make beautiful patterns.
- Woodworking 101: We keep it beginner-friendly. You will learn to measure, sand, and drill while building functional items like key holders.
Why Build With Us?
Most of these projects come from our desire to make STEM accessible. Instead of reading about physics, you are feeling it by balancing levers or exploring hydrophobicity in our paper art sessions.
We provide everything. You do not need to bring tools, expertise, or a 'maker' background. Just bring your curiosity. Most sessions are capped at small numbers so you get plenty of time with our facilitators to debug your project or just figure out how the machine works. Check our current schedule and come tinker with us.
