A Look Inside Our Lab

Get a peek into the creative chaos that fuels Paper Crane Lab, from our humble beginnings in a home office corner to our current makerspace in Indiranagar.

In this video, I explain the two main arms of what we do: our non-profit outreach programs and our physical makerspace in Bangalore. It gives a good overview of our mission and how we operate.

A quick video tour showing some of the cool and interesting things you can find at our lab. From a magnetic tessellation wall to amazing pop-up books and a vintage mechanical calculator, our space is full of inspiration.

We built this large infinity mirror with our logo as an eye-catching piece for our stalls and events. This video shows the process of assembling the frame, adding the LED strips, and the final mesmerizing result.

We recently created a postcard wall in our lab to showcase the work of artists and creators we admire. It's a beautiful corner that brightens up our space and celebrates the creative community.

A throwback to when our "office" was just a well-decorated corner in my house. It's amazing to see how far we've come, but the spirit of making and tinkering has been there from the very beginning.

About this collection

When you walk into our Indiranagar lab, don't expect a sterile showroom. You will find a bit of creative chaos, with workbenches covered in half-finished prototypes, the low hum of our 3D printers and laser cutters, and a wall of postcards from our community. This is a space built for experimenting and making mistakes until you get it right, and you are welcome to come in and start your own project.

Paper Crane Lab operates on two distinct but connected paths. On one side, we run STEM outreach programs in schools, teaching coding, electronics, and science through art, supported by our non-profit work. On the other side, we have our physical makerspace here in Bangalore, which serves as our headquarters for experimentation.

Why a Makerspace?

We started as a home-based initiative during the pandemic, focusing on 'Science with Paper' to keep learning accessible. As we grew, we realized we needed a physical home for our wilder ideas. Our lab in Indiranagar isn't just a place to buy goods; it is a shared space where we have set up the machines we love to use: 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and woodworking equipment.

Access and Community

We don't believe in hoarding tools. If you have a project in mind, you can book an open pass to use our machines. We have people dropping in to prototype their own inventions, finish school projects, or just learn how a laser cutter works for the first time.

The 'Artyfacts' Philosophy

Beyond just access, our lab is where we produce our 'Artyfacts by PCL' line. This is our in-house range of ready-to-buy items, like laser-engraved stamps, custom puzzles, and unique stationery. The profits from these sales go right back into funding our outreach programs, so when you support our product line or join a workshop, you are helping us take STEM education into more classrooms.

Come by for one of our open houses or workshops. We’d love to show you the magnetic tessellation wall, our vintage calculator, or the infinity mirror we built just to see if we could.
