Welcome to Kānike. A space for analog art, handmade treasures, and community-led creativity based in Cooke Town, Bengaluru.

This is our 'Orma Petti' or memory box, a permanent installation at the studio. It’s an ongoing project exploring how objects hold our memories, inviting visitors to connect with the stories held within.

A timeless portrait of a musician with her sitar, created using the historic wet plate collodion process. This 19th-century technique gives each image a unique, soulful quality that digital photography cannot replicate.

A candid moment from one of our bustling print sales, complete with our resident cat and quality inspector, Julie. These events are the heart of our community, helping us fund new projects and make art accessible to everyone.

Listen to artist Krishnamurthy P.S. share the inspiration behind his intricate ant sculptures. He transforms natural, found materials into stunning works of art, a process deeply rooted in his childhood memories of exploring the forest.

An invitation to our art market, where you can discover affordable, handmade treasures. We believe art is a gift, a 'kāṇike', and our markets are a celebration of this, offering everything from prints and zines to sculptures.

An ethereal landscape captured as a cyanotype print. This beautiful, non-toxic process uses sunlight to create striking Prussian blue images, and it's one of the core alternative photography techniques we practice and teach.

The reveal of a custom-printed leather wallet, showcasing the fusion of traditional leatherwork and printmaking. We host workshops where you can learn to craft your own unique leather goods.

The energy of a full house during one of our workshops. We love creating spaces where people can gather, learn, and share in the magic of creating something with their own hands.

About Featured

When you walk into Kānike, you’re not just seeing art; you’re seeing the chemistry behind it. Whether it's cyanotypes developed in natural sunlight or wet plate portraits that take forty-five minutes to craft, we believe in the messy, human side of making things. Our studio in Cooke Town is always open for you to drop by, watch work in progress, or chat with us about custom projects—no tickets, no formality, just a space to connect.

At Kānike, we see art as a gift, or 'kānike' in Kannada, meant to be shared rather than hidden behind glass. Our studio is built on the belief that traditional, analog techniques have a magic that digital files simply cannot replicate.

The Art of Analog

Our walls are usually filled with the deep Prussian blues of cyanotype prints, the ethereal qualities of wet plate collodion portraits, and woodcut prints. We don't just sell art; we show the process. You might find our resident cat, Julie, supervising a print sale, or see the 'Orma Petti' memory box, which serves as a permanent, evolving installation where visitors leave objects that hold personal stories.

Why We Do It

We started Kānike in 2019 to create a hub for people who love the tactile feeling of paper, leather, and ink. We move away from industrial perfection. Instead, we embrace chemical variances, brush strokes, and the quirks of handmade paper.

A Community Space

We aren't a silent gallery. We are a space for collaboration. We have worked with institutions like MAP Bangalore and the British Council to host shows, but we are just as happy teaching leathercraft to a small group in our studio or hosting a workshop on botanical ink. Everything we sell at our markets helps fund these programs and our terrace expansion, allowing us to build a dedicated pottery lab and a studio that catches the northern light.

If you have a wall that needs a specific tone or a vision for a custom analog series, we can work with you to match the chemistry to your space. We invite you to drop in and see what is brewing.

We started Kānike in 2019 to make art a gift—a shared space for everyone, not just the pros. We spend our days covered in ink and chemicals, building a community where storytelling matters more than polished perfection. Come hang out, learn a craft, or just see what is brewing on our walls.
