About Behind the Scenes: The Making of Magic

Our rehearsals are rarely just about the feet. We spend weeks synchronizing our dancers with the live orchestra to ensure the music and movement breathe together. When you watch our shows, you are seeing the result of this rigorous, shared sadhana where every glance and gesture is tuned to the story we are telling.

For us at Natesha Nrithyalaya, a production is not just a performance, it is a journey of shared devotion. The images here show the quiet moments in our studio, where the magic really begins.

The Process of 'Sadhana'

We believe that classical dance is a discipline that connects the dancer to the divine. Whether we are preparing for a temple offering like our 'Natya Seva' at Chidambaram or a ticketed show at venues like Seva Sadan, the process remains consistent.

  • Collaboration: We work closely with our live orchestra—vocalists, mridangam players, and violinists—to create a soundscape that supports the dancers. This is why our shows feel alive; the improvisation between the musicians and the dancers happens in real-time.
  • Attention to Detail: From the choice of costume colors to the character makeup, every visual element is decided with the intent to transport the audience to the world of the story, whether it is the playfulness of Krishna or the fierce grace of Durga.
  • Community Growth: Our studio brings together dancers of all ages, from tiny four-year-olds to seasoned performers. Seeing them rehearse together, learning to support one another, is as rewarding as the final performance on stage.

We treat these productions as an offering, and every hour spent in the studio is aimed at ensuring that when the stage lights come on, the audience experiences 'rasanubhava' (a sense of deep emotional connection). We handle all the logistics for these shows, so if you are looking to bring a classical dance production to your event, we can coordinate the entire ensemble, ensuring that the same spirit of 'sadhana' is present in every performance.

I started Natesha Nrithyalaya in 2016 to share the heart of dance, not just the technical steps. Today, my students and I treat the studio as a second home where we nurture stories of Krishna, Parvathi, and Durga with devotion. We invite you to be part of our community.
