About The Studio: Rehearsals & The Creative Process
When you see a performance on stage, you are seeing the result of weeks of intense synchronization with my musicians. I believe the magic of Bharatanatyam is not just in the steps, but in the live, breathing connection between me and the instrumentalists—the vocalists, mridangam, and violin players. If you are planning a live ensemble performance, let us talk about the sound requirements early on, as this collaboration requires a specific setup to truly land with your audience.
My process is deeply rooted in tradition but kept fresh through constant experimentation. Whether I am preparing a 'Margam'—a full-length repertoire—or a short invocation for a brand launch, the rigor remains the same. I spend countless hours in the studio, not just perfecting the choreography, but refining the 'Abhinaya', the storytelling aspect that defines the mood of the piece.
Practicing in Bengaluru and Chennai has exposed me to different artistic energies, and I carry those into every rehearsal. You will often find me and my team in the studio breaking down complex 'Nritta'—pure dance—sequences to ensure they look effortless under stage lights.
