Nature-Centric Hospitality Architecture and Resort Design
We create immersive hospitality spaces that breathe with the land, where architecture serves as a quiet frame for the natural environment.
Set within a verdant coffee estate, this project was designed to celebrate the local culture and landscape. The open-air amphitheater and surrounding buildings offer guests an intimate experience of the outdoors, blending leisure architecture with environmental reverence.
About Hospitality in Nature
When we approach a hospitality project, we don't start with floor plans. We start by walking the land to map out the solar path and existing tree canopy. In our coffee estate project, for instance, we oriented the structures to catch the morning sun while using open-air designs to invite the breeze, significantly reducing the reliance on artificial cooling. It is about working with the site, not against it.
Reading the Landscape
For us, hospitality architecture is about facilitating a connection between the guest and the environment. We believe a resort or retreat should not be a destination that stands apart from its surroundings, but one that feels like an extension of them. Our process begins with an ecological survey—mapping vegetation to ensure we design around trees rather than through them, and analyzing the topography to naturally manage water runoff.
Designing for the Senses
In our hospitality work, we prioritize materiality and atmosphere. We lean on exposed local stone, brick, and reclaimed timber because these materials age beautifully and ground the structure in its locale. We design spaces that offer both grandeur and intimacy—think of an amphitheater that uses the natural slope of the land to create a space for gathering, or rooms that open up to frame specific views of the forest canopy.
The Practical Reality
Sustainability is not a stylistic choice for us; it is a structural necessity. We integrate passive cooling strategies—like wind direction mapping and natural ventilation jalis—to ensure comfort without high energy consumption. We also focus heavily on master planning, creating circulation paths that encourage guests to walk and engage with the site, minimizing the intrusion of vehicles. Whether you are planning a boutique retreat or a larger estate, our goal is to build spaces where the architecture gets out of the way, allowing nature to be the primary experience.
