About Building Futures: Our All-Women Mason Team
Building with mud, lime, and bamboo requires a specific kind of strength that our women masons master daily on our active construction sites. They are not just laborers; they are skilled leaders who manage site logistics, operate pneumatic rammers, and execute complex structural designs. If you are curious about how our crew handles everything from bamboo wattle and daub to structural earthbag domes, chat with us to learn how we train them to take the lead.
Representation matters in architecture. While women make up 60% of architecture students in India, they hold only a fraction of practicing roles. At Masons Ink, we are changing that by actively training women to become master masons.
More Than Just Construction
We treat our sites as classrooms. Whether it is our studio workshops in Ashok Nagar or active projects like the 100% cement-free Cheerville Farmhouse, our team is hands-on. We move beyond theory to teach practical skills like:
- Structural Rammed Earth and Earthbag techniques
- Moroccan Tadelakt and Rajasthani Thappi plastering
- Bamboo wattle and daub construction
Building Community
Our philosophy is rooted in the Tamil saying, 'Pengalaala mudiyaadhadhu edhuvum illai' (There is nothing women can't do). We focus on empowering women to transition from helpers to site leaders. When you work with us, you are not just getting a building; you are supporting a team that values fair wages, leadership, and traditional, sustainable building methods that have been reimagined for modern homes.
Join Our Impact
We invite architects, students, and DIY enthusiasts to see this process firsthand. By participating in our onsite structural training or finishes workshops, you contribute to a circular, inclusive construction ecosystem. We keep our methods transparent, the worksite accessible, and the learning rigorous.
