The Building Journey: Process & Craft
Building a home is a journey, not just a transaction. Take a look behind the scenes at how we bring our designs to life, from the initial rammed earth foundation to the final artisan finish.
This video shows the process of creating a rammed earth foundation. This ancient, sustainable technique uses compacted soil from the site itself, minimizing concrete usage and connecting the building directly to its land.
A glimpse into the making of compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB) on-site. We often produce our own materials, ensuring quality control and reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation.
A video montage showing the Karki's home under construction. It captures the raw energy of a building taking shape, from the bare structure and scaffolding to the gradual emergence of finished spaces.
The Divyadarshan residence in its early construction phase. This image shows the skeleton of the house, with scaffolding in place as the mud block walls are being built.
Masons carefully constructing a brick jaali wall. This kind of detailed work requires immense skill and is a hallmark of the craftsmanship we value in our projects.
A view from within the construction site, looking up past steel beams to a skylight opening. This shot captures the structural elements before they are concealed, revealing the bones of the building.
Our team inspecting the progress of mud block masonry at a new residence. We are deeply involved at every stage, ensuring the quality and integrity of the construction.
About this collection
When we build with mud blocks, we don't just stack them. Our team produces them on-site to ensure quality, often using specific mixes like 1:77 to achieve the perfect structural density. Because we intentionally avoid plaster to hide errors, every brick-laying pattern, rat-trap bond, and structural joint must be planned with absolute precision before a single block is placed.
Why We Do It This Way
Traditional construction often hides flaws behind thick layers of cement plaster. We choose the harder path because it forces us to be honest. When you see our exposed brick or mud block walls, you are seeing the actual structure, the precise masonry, and the real craftsmanship. There is nowhere to hide poor work.
The Anatomy of Our Builds
-
Material Integrity: We don't just buy off the shelf. Whether it is rammed earth foundations or using site-excavated boulders for rubble masonry, we use what the land gives us. This reduces transport costs and carbon footprints while grounding the home in its own location.
-
Climatic Engineering: You won't find a one-size-fits-all plan here. We analyze the sun path and wind direction for every plot. By using features like filler slabs—which integrate clay pots or waste tiles to reduce concrete volume and heat gain—we keep your interiors cool naturally, often eliminating the need for constant air conditioning.
-
The Human Element: A house is only as good as the people who build it. From our senior architects visiting sites to ensure artisan craftsmanship, to the way we frame views with jaali walls or pivoted steel windows, we are involved in every decision. It requires patience from our clients, but the result is a home that feels alive.
Can We Build on Your Plot?
Whether you are planning a compact urban residence in Bengaluru or a remote farmhouse, our process remains consistent. We start with a dialogue about your lifestyle and the site's potential. We don't just provide drawings; we provide a roadmap for an eco-conscious build that grows better with age.
