The Brick Loft: A Rustic, Pet-Friendly Renovation

A warm, eco-conscious home transformation in Bengaluru blending exposed brick and reclaimed wood to create a space that is as welcoming for pets as it is for people.

This double-height living space in The Brick Loft features exposed brick, large windows, and a unique railing made from jute. The hanging light fixture is crafted from an upcycled wooden log.

Another view of the loft, showing how the different levels connect. We used upcycled wood for all the doors, adding to the home's sustainable and rustic charm.

The dining area features a large wooden table and cool Kota stone flooring, which is perfect for keeping furry friends comfortable. The space is designed for relaxed, communal living.

Sunlight streams across the Kota stone floor, a durable and naturally cool material that we love using in pet-friendly homes. The natural jute rug and floor cushions add to the cozy, rustic vibe.

We created many cozy nooks throughout the home, using natural textures like jute and wood. This log bench and layered rugs create an inviting spot to relax.

The play of sunlight on the floor highlights the different textures of the stone, jute, and wool rugs. We believe in creating spaces that are rich in sensory detail.

About this collection

When we designed this loft, the priority was 'pawsitivity'—making sure every corner was truly lived-in and worry-free. We chose Kota stone for the flooring because it stays naturally cool, perfect for pets, and paired it with exposed brick walls that add texture without needing constant maintenance. It is a space where you do not have to stress about a little mud or a stray scratch; it just adds to the character.

Building with Heart and Earth

For us, a home should breathe. In this project, we moved away from the standard apartment finish to embrace raw, honest materials. The double-height living area is anchored by exposed brick walls, which provide thermal mass to keep the home comfortable through Bengaluru's fluctuating seasons. We avoided synthetic paints, opting instead for lime plaster that allows the walls to remain breathable and moisture-free.

The Art of Repurposing

Sustainability is not just a concept here; it is in the joinery. We sourced reclaimed wood for the doors and structural elements, giving a second life to timber that carries its own history. The switchboards and fixtures were crafted from upcycled materials, proving that you do not need mass-produced plastic to create a modern, functional space.

Designing for Everyone

This renovation was specifically calibrated for a pet-friendly lifestyle. Beyond the cooling Kota stone, we integrated nooks and daybeds at floor level—places where both humans and pets can lounge together. The layout prioritizes flow, utilizing large, filigree-style windows that flood the loft with natural light while keeping the connection to the outdoors alive. If you are looking for an interior renovation that respects the history of your space while introducing sustainable, eco-conscious techniques, we would love to discuss how we can bring those same principles to your home.
