About Behind the Scenes: The Magic in Making
A perfect portrait isn't just about the camera; it's about the 'circus' happening right in front of it. Whether it's soothing a fussy baby or playing a quick game of peek-a-boo to catch a genuine giggle, my assistant and I prioritize your child’s comfort above everything else. If the little one isn't happy, we don't rush—we adapt, play, and wait for that 'magic' moment to happen naturally.
How We Make the Magic Happen
People often ask how I manage to get such expressive shots from energetic toddlers or sleepy newborns. The secret is that I treat every session like a playdate, not a production. My studio in Malad West is designed to be a safe, controlled environment where children can explore, crawl, and eventually forget that a camera is even there.
The 'Photo Doula' Approach
Being a 'photo doula' means I am there to support, not to command. During a sitter session or a toddler shoot, my team and I spend the first few minutes just settling in. We watch the baby's mood. Sometimes that means taking a break to feed, change, or just have a cuddle.
We bring in the props—the mini sofas, the floral tubs, the fairy wings—but we let the child decide how to interact with them. If a little one wants to explore a prop rather than sit on it, we follow their lead. This is how we get those 'chaotic but cute' moments that parents cherish years later.
Teamwork & Safety First
Photography, especially with children, is a team sport. While I focus on framing and light, my assistant is always inches away, dedicated entirely to baby safety and spotting. Whether we are setting up a complex piano theme or a simple cake smash, every prop is secured. We don't force poses. We coax them out with games, and yes, plenty of 'kitne pyaare lag rahe ho!' (you look so adorable!).
If you are planning a milestone session, know that you are not just booking a photographer—you are booking a process that respects your child's pace. We don't work against the mood; we work with it.
Lensdoula Photography
I’m Shilpa, and I’m less of a director and more of a 'photo doula' for your little ones. I don't just snap pictures; I build a space in my Malad studio where kids feel safe enough to be their messy, curious, beautiful selves.
