About Behind the Smiles: Our Process & Happy Families
Coming from a background in VFX, I have a habit of paying attention to the tiniest details. But when the camera is out, I trade the screen for the studio floor. My process is simple. It is about creating a space where your kids can just be themselves. Whether that involves bribing a toddler with a lollipop or waiting for a grandma to wave from behind the lens, I let the shoot flow naturally so we capture the real, messy, beautiful stuff that you will actually want to hang on your wall.
Why the Process Matters
The most beautiful portraits are never the ones where everyone is staring at the lens with a stiff smile. They are the ones where a sibling is whispering a secret, or a baby is reacting to a parent's tickle. My process is built around comfort, not perfection.
The Studio Experience
When you visit my studio in Byculla East, I make sure the environment is ready for you, not the other way around. If we are doing a first birthday cake smash, we set the scene with props and lighting before your little one arrives, so they are not overwhelmed. If it is a family portrait, we start slow. I spend the first few minutes just talking and playing, letting the family settle in. This helps the children get used to the camera before we start clicking.
Real Talk for Parents
- Come as you are: Do not worry if the kids are restless or shy. That is exactly what I capture.
- Bribes are welcome: If your toddler has a favorite toy or a snack that works, bring it.
- Be in the frame: Parents often hide behind the camera. Please, be in the photo. Your children will want to see you in these pictures, not just themselves.
By keeping the atmosphere light and the direction minimal, I am able to freeze those candid reactions. These are the in-between moments that truly define your family.
