Beyond the rhythm of the Chenda lies our true strength—a community united by tradition. Meet the gurus, students, and families who make Kalavadhyam a living gurukulam in Bangalore.

As part of our 15th anniversary, we presented 'Guruvandanam' to honor our visiting teachers, Shri Peruvanam Sankaranarayanan Marar and Shri Kombath Anil Kumar.

A moment of respect and blessing. We honor our gurus, who are the custodians of this tradition and who guide us on our artistic journey.

About this collection

This is not just a place to learn rhythm; it is a space to experience the traditional Gurukulam system. Before you pick up a drum, you connect with the lineage through Guruvandanam and rigorous Saadhakam on practice blocks. If you are looking for a community that treats every performance as a sacred offering—from our temple festival appearances at Kollur Mookambika to our intimate academy gatherings—you have found your home.

Our journey began 15 years ago with a simple spark: to keep Kerala’s temple art forms alive in the heart of Bangalore. Today, we are a family of over 800 students, ranging from young children to seniors, all bound by the goal of preserving Chenda Melam, Panchavadhyam, and Sopana Sangeetham.

At the center of our academy are our Gurus, including Shri Dheeraj Edat and our visiting legends. They teach the 'Kshethra' style, which emphasizes discipline, posture, and devotion over shortcuts. We believe that mastery comes from the ground up, which is why every student starts with Saadhakam. This foundation builds the physical and mental stamina required for the powerful 'simha garjjanam' (lion’s roar) of the Chenda.

We operate at various Kalari locations across Bangalore—from Ramamurthy Nagar to Sarjapur Road—ensuring that this heritage remains accessible. Beyond the drum, we foster an inclusive environment where women, children, and enthusiasts of all backgrounds can learn and thrive. Whether you are performing in a grand temple festival or joining an online batch from abroad, you are stepping into a lineage that values art as a divine blessing and a responsibility for the next generation.
