About this collection

Our events are not just performances; they are the true culmination of years of Saadhakam (practice). When you see an Arangettam on this page, you are witnessing a student who has progressed from practicing complex rhythms on stone blocks to performing a live Panchari Melam ensemble. Whether at our annual Melothsavam or at sacred sites like the Kollur Mookambika Temple, these milestones represent the dedication required to carry forward Kerala's percussion legacy.

The Kalavadhyam Journey

For 15 years, we have worked to bring the authentic sounds of Chenda Melam to Bangalore. This gallery captures the essence of that journey—from the quiet discipline of our Kalari (training spaces) to the thunderous energy of our Kshethrolsavam festivals.

Milestones and Performances

  • Arangettam (Student Debut): This is the most significant milestone for our students. It is their first official stage performance. We believe in building a strong foundation, so students only step onto the stage once they have mastered the core thalam (rhythm) cycles and have the discipline to perform in a group.
  • Melothsavam: Our annual classical Chenda Melam symphony. This festival brings together our students, expert gurus, and master artists to perform everything from Panchari Melam to the devotional grace of Sopana Sangeetham.
  • Sacred Performances: We are honored to lead student performances at temples like the Kollur Mookambika Temple. These events are not just about showing skill; they are an offering of our art to the divine.

A Growing Family

Our events are a reflection of our 800+ student family. We take immense pride in our inclusive approach. You will see photos of our ladies' wing, children, and senior students performing side-by-side. Our goal is to ensure that Kalavaadyathinte paarambaryam (the tradition of our art) is passed on to the next generation, regardless of age or background. If you are looking to understand the depth of our training, these events provide the clearest picture of what you can achieve here.

We founded Kalavadhyam not just as an academy, but as a Gurukulam—a family dedicated to keeping Kerala’s temple percussion alive in Bangalore. Seeing our students, from young children to our ladies' wing, perform with such devotion at major festivals is what drives us to keep the rhythm going.
