About Women of Kalavadhyam
Before you ever touch a Chenda drum, you will begin with Saadhakam, the disciplined practice of rhythm on stone blocks. This is how we build the muscle memory and posture required for the powerful, resonant sounds of the ensemble. We do not skip this stage, as it ensures that every student, regardless of age, develops the foundational strength needed to carry forward the legacy of our percussion arts.
At Kalavadhyam, we believe that the soul of Kerala's temple arts should be accessible to everyone who approaches it with dedication. Our women-only batches provide a safe, encouraging environment to learn complex rhythms without hesitation. Whether you are interested in the thunderous roar of the Chenda, the rhythmic precision of Ilathaalam, or the devotional grace of Sopana Sangeetham with the Edakka, we guide you from your very first beat.
Our curriculum is identical to our traditional training, ensuring no compromise on quality. You will progress through the same stages as all our students: starting with fundamental wrist movements on stone, moving to simple rhythm patterns, and eventually graduating to full ensemble pieces like Panchari and Pandi Melam.
We take great pride in seeing our female students perform their Arangettam, or debut performance, at temples across Bengaluru. It is a moment of profound transformation when you move from the practice Kalari to the sacred stage, becoming part of the living tradition. If you have been searching for a place to learn these classical arts, we invite you to join our family, explore our different Kalari locations, or even start with our online Gurukulam platform if you cannot visit us in person.
