Experience the grace of the Kalakshetra style through a curated solo performance. I bring ancient narratives to life with a four-piece live ensemble, ensuring every step and gesture speaks to your audience.

A snippet from a recent solo program where I performed a piece after a gap of twenty years. It was a joy to revisit the choreography and share its timeless beauty with the audience.

A few classic Bharatanatyam poses from my younger days. The caption was a bit of fun, but the postures themselves are serious, demonstrating the strength and control required in this dance form.

A classic solo performance photograph from my career. Dressed in a traditional red costume, this pose captures the balance and geometric precision that is a hallmark of the Kalakshetra style.

A short clip from a solo performance, showcasing the fluid transitions between different movements and expressions. This is a glimpse into the storytelling aspect of a Varnam or Padam.

A powerful moment on stage, captured with dramatic lighting. The expression and posture convey a deep sense of emotion, which is the core of 'abhinaya' in Bharatanatyam.

Here, I demonstrate a 'jhati', which is a rhythmic sequence of steps (adavus) set to drum syllables (bhols). This is a fundamental building block of the 'nritta' or pure dance aspect of Bharatanatyam.

A portrait where I am using a 'mudra', or hand gesture, which forms the vocabulary of our dance language. This particular gesture can signify many things, depending on the context of the story being told.

A happy announcement of being awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. This portrait captures the joy and humility I feel in being a practitioner of this divine art form.

About The Solo Recital: An Intimate Dialogue

When I perform a solo recital, I treat it as a conversation between the dancer and the audience. I do not simply execute the choreography; I decode the complex mudras (hand gestures) and mythological narratives in real-time. Whether it is a challenging Varnam or a delicate Padam, my focus remains on clarity—ensuring that even those witnessing Bharatanatyam for the first time can connect with the emotion and the story being told.

My solo practice is deeply grounded in the Kalakshetra aesthetic, known for its emphasis on geometric precision, grace, and clean lines. When you book a recital, you are not just getting a performer; you are getting a complete musical experience. Every solo set includes a professional four-piece live orchestra—comprising a vocalist, Mridangam, Violin or Flute, and Nattuvangam—which is essential for maintaining the rhythmic integrity of the nritta (pure dance) sequences.

What to Expect

  • Pedagogical Engagement: I often include a short lecture-demo component within the recital. I pause to explain the bhava (emotion) behind the abhinaya, making the performance an immersive experience rather than a passive viewing.
  • The Repertoire: A typical performance follows the traditional Margam structure, including Pushpanjali, Varnam, and Padams, spanning 60 to 90 minutes. I am happy to adjust the thematic focus if you have a specific requirement for the occasion.
  • Professional Requirements: To maintain the sanctity of the form, I perform exclusively on wooden stages or dedicated dance floors. I also require a standard sound setup with 4 to 5 microphones to capture the live ensemble accurately.

This approach ensures that the art form retains its discipline and soul. If you are planning an intimate cultural gathering or a formal stage event in Delhi NCR, I ensure the performance resonates with the gravity and joy that Bharatanatyam deserves.
