A personal journey into the classical Bharatanatyam repertoire, where rhythm, storytelling, and the traditional margam come alive through solo performance.

A pose from my solo concert in Pune for Nrityayatri. Each solo recital is a unique conversation between me, the musicians, and the audience.

Performing a TANA Varnam in Behag. The Varnam is often the centerpiece of a recital, a test of both stamina and expressive ability, weaving together pure dance and storytelling.

A moment from a Devi Stuti performance in Pune. Portraying the divine feminine energy of the Goddess through Bharatanatyam is always a powerful and humbling experience.

This snippet portrays a story from the Ramayana, where Rama explains the Sita Swayamvaram to Hanuman. Using abhinaya to convey these subtle, emotional moments from our epics is a core part of my solo work.

A moment of release and expression during my concert in Pune. The physical and emotional aspects of the dance are deeply intertwined.

Another angle from my performance for Nrityayatri in Pune. The challenge is to fill the entire stage with energy and presence as a single performer.

A dynamic pose captured during the Pune concert. Solo performances demand a high level of precision in every movement, from the footwork to the fingertips.

A seated expressive posture from the Pune performance. Not all movements are large; some of the most powerful moments are found in subtlety and control.

About Solo Recitals: The Classical Repertoire

The heart of a solo recital lies in the live chemistry between me and the ensemble. Whether I am performing a high-energy Thillana or a deeply emotive Varnam, the interaction with my musicians creates a spontaneous energy that shifts with every venue and audience I encounter.

My solo practice is grounded in the traditional Bharatanatyam margam, which takes the audience from simple rhythmic patterns to complex storytelling. I offer two main formats for these recitals to suit different event needs.

For smaller events, I perform a 20 to 40-minute highlight set. This format is perfect for when you want the visual brilliance of classical dance without a multi-hour commitment. I can perform these with high-quality recorded tracks or a compact live ensemble.

For sabhas, festivals, or dedicated cultural events, I offer the full 75 to 90-minute traditional margam. This includes a 5-piece tier-1 live orchestra, covering the full arc of the performance from Pushpanjali to Thillana. My process is very hands-on, requiring a dedicated sound check and a properly equipped stage to ensure the musicians and I can perform at our best.

I have performed these pieces in settings ranging from intimate temple stages to large concert halls in India and abroad. The goal is always the same: to present an honest performance where every gesture and step holds meaning, rather than just delivering a show.
