We believe hospital design must actively contribute to the healing process. Our approach focuses on creating restorative atmospheres through natural light, passive ventilation, and calming green spaces.

The Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre features a distinctive brick jali facade that provides shading and ventilation while creating a strong visual identity. The grand, sheltered entrance is designed to be welcoming and easily accessible for patients and visitors.

Revisiting the Symbiosis University Hospital five years after completion allows us to see how the spaces have come to life. This video reflects on how the building's design, from the reception to the patient wards, is being used and appreciated by its occupants.

This video explains our design approach for the Symbiosis hospital, where we carved out courtyards to bring natural light and ventilation into corridors and lobbies. Large windows and green spaces create a comfortable, interactive, and sustainable healing environment.

At the D.Y. Patil University Rural Health Training Centre, thoughtfully designed courtyards are central to the building's layout. These green spaces enhance airflow, invite natural light, and cultivate a calming atmosphere that supports patient recovery.

This medical office building in Nagpur was designed with fluid, organic shapes to create a serene and dynamic environment. The soft lines of the facade are intended to reduce the institutional feel and provide a more calming experience for patients.

The facade of the Nagpur medical building showcases a balance of form and fluidity. The wave-like horizontal bands create a sense of gentle movement, contributing to a welcoming and less intimidating healthcare setting.

For this Mother and Child Hospital retrofit, we introduced a vibrant, colorful facade. The design celebrates the existing structure while improving its functionality and creating a cheerful, optimistic atmosphere for patients and their families.

About this collection

We believe hospital design often overlooks the 'psychology of place.' Rather than simply calculating bed counts, we analyze how a patient experiences a corridor. In our retrofit projects, such as the Mother and Child Hospital, we focused on adding color and light to existing structures to shift the environment from institutional to optimistic. We prioritize analyzing your site constraints first—sun path, wind direction, and circulation flow—before proposing any architectural intervention.

Designing for Recovery

Our approach to healthcare architecture is rooted in the belief that built environments directly influence patient recovery and staff well-being. We move beyond standard layouts by integrating biophilic design principles that bring the outdoors inside. This often means carving out courtyards to facilitate natural cross-ventilation and maximizing daylight penetration in lobbies and patient wards.

New Builds vs. Revitalization

We approach healthcare projects with two distinct philosophies depending on the site requirements:

  • New Institutional Facilities: For projects like the Symbiosis University Hospital, we design from the ground up to create a 'healing ecosystem.' This includes the use of traditional building techniques, such as brick jalis (screens), to provide shading and privacy while maintaining an open, breathable facade.
  • Retrofitting & Revitalization: We understand that healthcare is often about improving what already exists. For projects like the JNMC Wardha, our goal is not a complete overhaul but a design-led revitalization. By updating facades and improving circulation paths, we modernize the institution’s identity and functionality without losing its original architectural grandeur.

The Technical Foundation

Our design process is deeply technical. We utilize detailed climate analysis—including sun-path diagrams and wind studies—to ensure that wards remain cool during peak temperatures. This reduces reliance on artificial cooling and creates a more comfortable, predictable environment for patients. From acoustic engineering in auditoriums to the precise orientation of patient beds for maximum comfort, every decision is data-backed and oriented toward the user's sensory experience.
