Beautiful Creations from Our Pottery Students
I love watching new students discover the joy of working with clay. Every piece you see here was made by someone who started with no experience and just a little bit of curiosity.
I am always so impressed by what my students create. Here is a collection of finished pieces from a 12-year-old artist after her 15-day beginner course, including a whale vase, a house incense burner, and a cat palette.
This beautiful chip and dip plate, with its flowing blue and green glaze, was made by a student in my 15-day hand-building course. The organic shape and vibrant colors are just stunning.
A student created this lovely stoneware teapot during her 15-day combined hand-building and wheel course. The leaf patterns were made using a wax resist technique before glazing.
This bright and cheerful bowl with hand-painted oranges was made by a student in my 15-day combined workshop. It shows a wonderful use of underglaze colors on a hand-built form.
A beach-themed mug and a matching three-legged planter, created by a 12-year-old artist during her first 15-day exploration of ceramics.
This rotating view shows the details of a sea-themed mug made by a young student. She hand-sculpted the turtle and starfish, adding a personal touch to her creation.
This vase, featuring a whale tail and a crescent moon, was hand-built and carved by a 12-year-old student. The sgraffito technique reveals the lighter clay body underneath the blue glaze.
About this collection
In our 15-day workshops, you do not just learn basic theory. You spend time mastering specific techniques like sgraffito carving and glaze application, leaving the studio with a collection of functional pieces like tea sets or mugs that are entirely your own design.
When you walk into our studio in Uttarahalli, the goal is simple. We want you to feel the quiet, meditative process of turning a lump of earth into something beautiful. Whether you are seven or seventy, the process is the same. We start by getting our hands dirty, learning to wedge the clay, and understanding how it behaves under your touch.
Over the course of your sessions, we explore both hand-building and wheel throwing. You will learn how to build structure with slabs or coils, and how to create delicate, symmetrical forms on the wheel. Many students find that once they grasp the basics, they start experimenting with their own ideas, like adding whimsical animal shapes to mugs or carving intricate leaf patterns into vases.
We provide everything you need, including stoneware clay and a variety of nature-inspired glazes. You do not need to worry about being an artist. My job is to guide you step-by-step, helping you navigate the sometimes moody nature of clay. By the end of your time here, you will have a set of food-safe, durable pieces that you can actually use in your kitchen. It is incredibly rewarding to see students realize that they are capable of making art that is both practical and personal.
Ihalo Studio
Ihalo Studio is my little sanctuary in Uttarahalli where I help students find their creative rhythm. I love watching beginners get comfortable with clay and walk away with something they made from scratch.
