Hand-Painted Mythological Wall Plates

Bring ancient stories to your walls with hand-painted wood plates inspired by Indian folk traditions like Theyyam and Tholu Bommalata.

This Theyyam wall plate captures the fierce and divine expression of the ritual dancer. I used a textured black background with gold dust to evoke the mystical atmosphere of a performance by firelight.

A pair of wall plates depicting faces from Bhoota Kola and Theyyam, two powerful folk ritual dances. Each plate captures a different character and expression, representing a deep connection to the spiritual world.

About this collection

I finish these plates with high-grade varnish or a glass-like epoxy resin to protect the acrylics, making them moisture-resistant and durable. Since every piece is painted by hand, your order will carry unique brushstrokes that ensure no two plates are exactly the same.

I work primarily with high-quality MDF canvases, though I sometimes use rustic wood for specific grain textures. Whether you are looking for a small 4-inch miniature for a shelf or a large 12-inch statement piece for your living room, these plates are designed to be focal points.

My process is deeply rooted in Indian heritage. I draw from the dramatic energy of Theyyam and Bhoota Kola masks, the vibrant narrative of Tholu Bommalata leather puppetry, and the serene beauty of Pichwai and Kalamkari motifs. The animals of Brindavan, such as cows and peacocks, also find their way into my work, often finished with gold foil details for an added touch of sacredness.

Each plate comes with a pre-installed metal hook on the back, so they are ready to hang the moment they reach you. If you have a specific story, animal, or deity in mind, I love creating custom sets that tell your own narrative. Because I hand-paint every detail, these pieces require time to complete, allowing me to ensure that the final result reflects the care and intention I put into every stroke.

I pour my love for our traditions into every plate I paint, whether it is the fierce mask of a Theyyam dancer or the gentle face of a Nandi. For me, painting these is a way to keep our stories alive in modern homes. I invite you to bring a piece of this journey into your own space.
