Traditional Kerala Art and Mural Paintings
I bring the vibrant traditions of Kerala, like Theyyam and Kathakali, to life on canvas. Each painting is a meditative process, created right here in my home studio in Bangalore to bring cultural warmth to your space.
Here I am with a completed Radha Krishna mural-style painting. I love working on large canvases like this, filling them with the bright, bold colors and intricate details that are characteristic of Kerala's traditional art.
A closer look at my process for the Radha Krishna mural. I often use a simple coconut shell as my paint palette, a little touch that keeps me connected to my roots while I work on these detailed spiritual paintings.
A finished Radha Krishna painting, ready to find a new home. This piece is filled with symbolism, from the peacock feather in Krishna's hair to the serene expressions, all set against a deep blue background. This artwork is available for purchase.
This video shows the journey of a custom Theyyam painting, from the first red outlines on the canvas to the final framed artwork, all wrapped up for a secret Santa gift. The request was to create a piece for someone who is a Theyyam performer, making it a truly personal and meaningful present.
Taking a moment with an unframed Kathakali painting. At this stage, the colors are all laid down, and you can see the powerful expression of the character taking shape before it gets framed and ready for display.
A close-up of me working on a Kathakali painting. The elaborate costumes and makeup are an iconic symbol of Kerala, and I take great care in capturing every detail with my brush and paints.
About Traditional Kerala Art & Murals
When I work on murals like Kathakali or Theyyam, I do not use fancy studio equipment. I often use a humble coconut shell as my paint palette, a small habit that keeps me grounded in my Keralite roots while I focus on the intricate details of your custom canvas.
My journey with traditional art started with a desire to keep the stories of home alive. Whether it is a bold Theyyam painting or the elaborate, expressive makeup of a Kathakali dancer, these themes are deeply connected to the culture I grew up in.
Why I Paint Murals
I believe art should bring positive energy into a room. When I work with acrylics on canvas, I aim to capture the raw, powerful expressions of Kerala's traditional performance arts. This is not about mass-production. Each piece is hand-painted, layer by layer, focusing on the symbolism—like the peacock feathers in a Radha Krishna piece or the intricate patterns in a temple mural. It is a slow, meditative process that I cherish.
How We Can Work Together
If you are looking to bring a touch of traditional Indian art into your living room, office, or gift to a loved one, I can create a piece that fits your space. I work on various sizes, from smaller wall accents to larger statement canvases.
- Customization: You can share a specific theme, a reference photo, or even just a feeling you want the artwork to convey.
- Quality: I use professional-grade acrylics to ensure the colors remain vibrant and the details stay sharp for years.
- Logistics: I am based in Bangalore, but I ship these paintings safely worldwide, bubble-wrapped and protected so they reach you in perfect condition.
Because I create these pieces from my home studio—often with my little assistant nearby—I ensure each commission gets my full, undivided attention. Reach out if you have a specific traditional theme in mind, or if you want to recreate a memory through the lens of Kerala’s rich artistic history.
