About Featured
I don't just make pots; I build stories into clay. Whether it is the specific handle geometry of a coffee mug or the intricate sgraffito patterns on a vase, I focus on the pottery math that makes a piece feel perfect in your hand. When you commission a piece, we go beyond simple aesthetics to figure out the narrative you want to live with, from the weight of the clay to the texture of the glaze.
My Approach to Clay
At GOAK Ceramics, my work is split between functional daily essentials and signature narrative pieces.
- Functional Stoneware: These are my daily-use items like mugs and bowls. I treat these with the same rigor as art—ensuring the lip finish is comfortable and the handles are balanced. Every piece is high-fired to 1220°C, making them durable, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-friendly.
- Signature Art: This includes my collections like Déesse, inspired by the 1920s Bombay spirit, and Khumār, which captures the nostalgia of old-school gatherings. These pieces involve complex manual carving and relief work, requiring hours of focused studio time.
- Custom Commissions: If you have a vision, I love the collaborative process. We start with a consultation, move to sketches, and then prototype to ensure the shrinkage and glaze chemistry are just right. Whether it's a batch of custom ceramic buttons or a pet bowl, I treat every project as a unique problem to solve.
Why Choose Handmade?
Because mass-produced items lack the 'jugaad'—the creative hacks that only come from hands-on work. When you hold a piece of GOAK ceramics, you are holding something that has been thrown, carved, and glazed in my Indiranagar studio. It is slow craft, but that is exactly what makes it real.
If you are visiting Bangalore, come by the studio. I would love to show you the wheel, talk about handle proportions, or help you pick out a piece that actually fits your life.
Gauri Oak
I'm Gauri, and GOAK Ceramics is where my stories become clay. I love the technical side of pottery, but mostly, I love creating pieces that find a home in your daily rituals. My Indiranagar studio is where I experiment, teach, and obsess over handle proportions, and I would love to help you find something that feels like yours.
