Kathak is a storytelling tradition rooted in rhythm and devotion. Explore these expressive Abhinaya performances depicting divine stories of Krishna Leela and Ram Bhakti.

A moment of quiet reflection from the production 'Krishna Katha'. Here, I am portraying an emotion from the life of Lord Krishna, using facial expressions and gestures to tell the story.

This duet portrays the classic 'Holi' narrative where Radha questions Krishna about where he has been playing with colors. These thematic productions bring alive the playful and devotional aspects of our mythology.

Celebrating the festival of colors through dance. This piece, 'Shyam Sang Hori', depicts Radha's playful anticipation as she waits to celebrate Holi with Lord Krishna.

This performance depicts the story of Krishna's playful teasing ('chhed chhad') of the 'sakhis' or friends by the banks of the Yamuna river. Storytelling is the heart of Kathak.

A glimpse from 'Krishn-Raas', a magical performance presented under the guidance of my guru, Saswati didi. The blue lighting and ethereal backdrop helped create the divine atmosphere of Krishna's celestial dance.

This piece, 'Sab Ban Than Aai Shyam Pyari', is a beloved composition in the Kathak world. It describes the 'sakhis' dressing up to meet their beloved Krishna, and I am portraying one of them.

Portraying Radha Rani for the first time was a deeply spiritual experience. This pose captures her divine essence and her complete surrender in love for Krishna.

Another still from my portrayal of Radha. The costume, which belongs to my guru Saswati didi, made the experience even more special, as if I was wrapped in her blessings.

As Radha, every gesture is filled with devotion. Here, the hand mudras and expression convey a specific emotion from the narrative of her divine love story with Krishna.

It was a dream come true to perform at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya for Ram Navmi. This pose, in a traditional male costume, is from my performance there, a moment where I felt truly connected to the temple traditions of Kathak.

About Devotional Narratives: Krishna & Ram Bhakti

When I perform these devotional pieces, my focus shifts to abhinaya—the art of expression—to bridge the gap between the performer and the audience. It is not merely about executing the technical footwork; it is about conveying the emotion of the story, whether it is the playfulness of Krishna or the reverence of a Ram Bhajan, so that everyone present feels the connection to the narrative.
