Renovating an existing 2.5-acre property requires balancing heritage preservation with modern requirements, especially under strict local byelaws. We achieved this by integrating energy-efficient building systems and low-VOC materials without altering the original structure, ensuring the home remains both environmentally responsible and structurally sound.
Our Approach to Sustainable Renovation
When we took on the Vasant Kunj farmhouse, the primary constraint was the local byelaw restriction, which prohibited expanding the building footprint or altering the existing structure. Our solution was to focus on interior optimization and climate-responsive design to improve efficiency without changing the core form of the property.
IGBC Platinum Standards
This project achieved an IGBC Platinum rating by focusing on:
- Energy Efficiency: We installed advanced VRF air conditioning systems and glare-free LED lighting controlled by smart sensors to reduce overall consumption.
- Material Selection: Using low-VOC paints, engineered oak flooring, and sustainable teakwood ensured high durability and minimal environmental impact.
- Climate Control: The use of louvres and shaded trellises allows for natural ventilation while providing privacy and heat reduction, essential for the Delhi climate.
Interior Excellence
Inside, we prioritized comfort and high-end aesthetics. The design features a mix of Italian marble, brass inlays, and custom-designed furniture that complements the architectural shell. Every piece of cabinetry and furniture was manufactured to fit the specific needs of the residents, maximizing space while maintaining a minimalist, clean look.
