The Pool House: A Farmhouse Retreat
A 1,800 sq ft sanctuary in Chhatarpur, blending prefabricated steel, glass facades, and natural materials. It is an extension of home, designed for lively multigenerational gatherings or quiet reflection by the pool.
This is the main view of the Pool House, an extension I designed for a multi-generational family in Chhatarpur. The goal was to forge a connection between the main house, the landscape, and the family's daily life.
A close-up of the architectural details. The sharp lines of the steel frame contrast with the warmth of the timber-slatted ceiling, while the slender columns allow for an unobstructed view of the palm trees and garden.
The covered deck is an essential part of the design, creating a seamless transition from the lounge to the outdoors. I incorporated large, circular skylights into the timber ceiling to draw in natural light and create playful shadows throughout the day.
This view shows how the outdoor lounge area is designed for relaxation and conversation. The furniture is low-profile and comfortable, ensuring that the focus remains on the expansive garden views.
The timber deck serves as a natural gathering spot for the family. It was designed to be versatile enough for weekend lunches, quiet evening teas, or simply relaxing by the pool.
In the dining area, a custom metal art piece adorns the wall, adding a sculptural element that complements the clean lines of the furniture. The open plan ensures a constant connection to the living area and the views beyond.
The ground floor plan illustrates the open and fluid layout of the Pool House. You can see the clear visual axis from the indoor living area, across the deck, to the swimming pool, emphasizing the indoor-outdoor connection.
These architectural elevations show how the structure interacts with its inhabitants and the landscape. The sectional elevation, in particular, highlights the flow from the interior living space to the shaded deck and pool area.
About The Pool House: A Farmhouse Retreat
The Pool House was built using a Light Gauge Steel Frame structure, which allowed for a fast, clean installation without disrupting the existing garden landscape. By using large, wrap-around glass facades, we have effectively erased the boundary between the living room and the poolside deck, making the garden feel like an extension of your indoor lounge.
The challenge here was creating a cohesive, multi-generational space without overwhelming the existing property. We wanted a structure that breathed with its surroundings. The Light Gauge Steel Frame construction was a deliberate choice. It is precise, fast, and light on the ground, meaning the lush Chhatarpur landscape remained untouched during the build.
The material palette is kept intentionally quiet to let the outdoors take center stage. We used beige stone flooring, a warm timber-slatted ceiling, and textured walls to create that necessary sense of groundedness. The main feature is the glass facade, which works two ways. By day, it reflects the surrounding palms and pool. By night, the structure glows from within, turning into a welcoming beacon for the family.
We avoided heavy partitions to keep the layout fluid. A seamless transition exists from the internal lounge and bar area, across the covered timber deck, and right to the pool edge. It is not just about looking at the garden. It is about moving through it. Whether you are hosting a weekend lunch or need a quiet hour in the shade, this space adapts to the rhythm of your day. This project shows how we can use modern building techniques to achieve a timeless, soulful aesthetic.
