Creative Block Printing Workshops with Natural Inks
Learn the rhythmic art of block printing using earth-friendly, non-toxic inks. Whether you are creating custom tote bags or hand-printed stationery, these sessions are a slow, creative way to connect with traditional craft.
This is what pure joy looks like. A young artist proudly showing off the cotton tote bag she decorated in our block printing workshop. We use safe, non-toxic inks so little hands can create freely, learning about animals and sustainability through play.
A moment of deep concentration during our block printing workshop. This young creator is carefully stamping sea creatures onto her cotton bag, learning about different species and their habitats through this hands-on art activity.
Little hands, big creativity. Here, a child is choosing and pressing wooden blocks onto her tote bag. Each stamp is a decision, a piece of a story she is creating, all while making a reusable bag to replace single-use plastics.
Block printing isn't just for fabric. Here I'm experimenting with printing on different types of paper, including watercolour sheets, my own recycled handmade paper, and even old newspaper that can now be used as beautiful gift wrap.
I had an amazing time learning the traditional Bagru printing technique in Rajasthan from artisans. This is a cotton tee I designed and printed myself using natural colours and hand-carved blocks, a beautiful reminder of the richness of India's craft heritage.
Holding up my first creation from the Bagru printing workshop. The process of selecting the blocks and arranging the patterns was so enjoyable, and I'm thrilled with how this naturally dyed, block-printed t-shirt turned out.
About Block Printing with Natural Inks
We use only non-toxic, safe-to-handle natural inks, making these sessions perfect for kids and adults alike. You will not just learn a pattern; you will understand the alignment, pressure, and ink consistency needed to get a clean print every time, whether you are working on a cotton tote bag or textured handmade paper.
Beyond the Stamping
The traditional Bagru technique involves much more than just stamping fabric. It is a mindful process of choosing the right woodblock, mixing natural pigments, and applying consistent pressure to get a crisp impression. In my sessions, we strip away the machinery and mass production to focus entirely on the human touch.
We start with the basics of composition and alignment. You will learn why certain blocks work better on cotton than on handmade paper, and how to manage the ink saturation so your design stays sharp.
Why Natural Inks Matter
Most commercial prints use chemical dyes that are harsh on the skin and the environment. By using plant-based and safe natural inks, we ensure that every session—whether for a school group in Bangalore or a birthday party—is entirely sustainable.
What You Will Create
- Cotton Tote Bags: Durable, reusable, and uniquely yours.
- Stationery & Gift Wrap: We use recycled paper and old newspapers to create beautiful, textured wrapping paper.
- Design Confidence: You will learn to identify motif combinations that look good together, moving from simple repetitive patterns to complex, layered art.
Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your printing skills, this is a space where you can get your hands messy and see immediate results from your own efforts.
