Nature-Based Summer Camps for Kids
I take children away from screens and into the wild. My summer camps are all about getting muddy, building science experiments from scratch, and learning how nature works, not just reading about it.
We celebrated Earth Day at Cubbon Park with a simple, meaningful hand-printing activity. It was a beautiful reminder for both children and parents that we all have a role in caring for our planet. These little hands hold our future.
This is what learning about colours looks like in my workshops, no books or screens needed. At our Nature Play session in Cubbon Park, children foraged for leaves and flowers, creating a beautiful colour palette straight from the earth.
Using flowers and leaves as natural crayons is a magical experience for children. This activity helps them identify colours, explore different textures and scents, and connect with the natural world in a calm and focused way.
About Summer Camps & Outdoor Adventures
Most parents worry about their children spending their holidays in front of a tablet or phone. In my camps, we replace that screen time with active, messy projects like building working water filtration systems with charcoal and sand, or dyeing cotton T-shirts with plant pigments. I keep my groups small, ensuring every child receives direct guidance while we explore outdoor spaces together.
My Approach to Outdoor Learning
I do not run classrooms with textbooks and desks. My "Our Planet" summer camp is built on the belief that children remember best when their hands are busy and their minds are wandering.
We spend our days at outdoor venues like parks, where nature provides both the materials and the lessons. It is not about keeping things clean or perfectly precise. It is about understanding the science behind the world around us.
The 5-Day Experience
My flagship program spans five consecutive days, covering a different scientific theme each afternoon:
- Day 1 (Zoology): We study animal habitats and use block printing to create motifs based on what we observe.
- Day 2 (Chemistry): We extract colors from flowers and learn the science of natural tie-dye.
- Day 3 (Sustainability): We take office waste and turn it into handmade paper.
- Day 4 (Environmental Science): We build functional multi-layer water filters using gravel, sand, and charcoal.
- Day 5 (Entrepreneurship): We finish by curating a mini-exhibition of the projects we have built.
Why This Matters
Beyond the projects, the goal is to cultivate a sense of agency. When a child learns how to recycle paper or filter water, they realize they can solve problems. They leave with more than just a handmade T-shirt or a water filter model; they leave with the curiosity to ask, "En madtidiya?" (What are we doing?) and the confidence to explore that question on their own.
I provide all materials, including organic cotton apparel, science tools, and art supplies. We keep our batch sizes limited to 15 children to ensure a 1:5 teacher-student ratio, keeping the environment focused and safe for everyone.
En Madtidiya
Hi, I am Kruthika. I started 'En Madtidiya' because I missed the playful, curious way I learned as a child, climbing trees and exploring. My goal is to create that same space for your children, where nature is the teacher and getting a little messy is part of the process.
