About Printmaking for All
The best part about printmaking is the reveal moment, when you pull the paper and see your design transferred. We set up everything so you don't need to buy expensive equipment or clear space at home; just bring your curiosity, and we will handle the messy ink and the printing press.
Printmaking is less about perfect drawing skills and more about understanding the process of transfer. At our Delhi studio, we introduce you to the two main worlds of printmaking: relief printing and serigraphy.
Relief Printing: Linocut and Woodcut
This is where you get to carve. We start with soft blocks or linoleum sheets where you use V-shaped and U-shaped gouges to remove the negative space. It feels like sculpting. Once your block is carved, we apply ink with a brayer roller and use a manual printing press to transfer the image onto paper or tote bags. It is a brilliant way to create bold, high-contrast art.
Serigraphy (Silkscreen Printing)
If you prefer graphic shapes and vibrant colors, serigraphy is for you. We use a mesh screen to push ink through a stencil onto your surface. This technique allows for layering, which is why it is perfect for printing custom tote bags or creating limited-edition art prints.
Why join our workshops?
We believe in low-pressure learning. We provide all the specialized gear—from high-temperature kilns for some of our other crafts to the etching press for printmaking—so you never have to worry about the logistics. We keep our batches small, typically 8 to 12 people, so you get actual guidance on how to hold your carving tools and how much ink pressure to apply. Our guest printmaker, Tarun Sharma, often joins us to help participants refine their technique. You will walk away with your own set of prints and, more importantly, the confidence to try it again.
Culture Chauraha
We are a mom-and-daughter team—Ritu Aunty and her daughter—running Culture Chauraha to make art accessible to everyone. We believe printmaking is less about being perfect and more about the satisfaction of pulling that finished print with your own hands.
