Outdoor Sketching Workshops in Delhi

Delhi is our classroom. From the quiet lawns of Sunder Nursery to the busy lanes of Janpath, we explore the city through ink and paper.

A glimpse into our outdoor sketching workshop at Sunder Nursery. You can see us starting with a blank page, working with ink to capture the architecture, and sharing our finished pieces at the end. It's all about community and learning together.

Here I am sketching on a divider at Janpath Market. My workshops are informal and we make use of whatever space we find. It’s about being present and drawing what you see, no fancy studio needed.

This is the finished ink sketch from that day at Janpath. Using fine liner pens, I focused on capturing the contrast and texture of the trees against the street stall. This is a great example of urban sketching.

An ink drawing I did using Micron pens. This style of pen and ink art is something we practice in our outdoor sessions, focusing on line work and creating atmosphere with simple tools.

A quiet moment during an outdoor session. Holding a finished piece in the place where you created it is a special feeling. This portrait was done with graphite, capturing the soft, natural light.

About Outdoor Sketching: Our Delhi Classroom

This isn't a typical classroom where you sit still. We meet on-site at locations like Sunder Nursery or Janpath, find a spot, and draw what we see. Expect to spend three hours learning how to use fine liners for ink work and getting comfortable with perspective in the real world.

Why We Sketch Outside

Art started as my personal escape, and I found that drawing live scenes is the fastest way to learn. Instead of staring at a reference photo, we deal with real-world constraints—changing light, moving crowds, and architecture. It teaches you to make quick decisions and trust your hand.

What You Will Learn

We focus on the essentials that actually matter on the field:

  • Ink Work: Using Micron pens to create texture and depth without needing a pencil draft first.
  • Perspective: Learning to spot vanishing points in heritage buildings and cityscapes.
  • Light and Shadow: Breaking down complex structures into basic shapes.

The Session Format

We keep groups small—between 4 to 10 people. This ensures I can come around and give everyone individual feedback, or just sit next to you and sketch alongside. It is a roaming mentor approach. You bring your own sketchbook and pens, and we focus on the practice. If you are ever feeling stuck or unsure, we share our books at the end of the day. No judgment, just progress.

Locations We Cover

We use public spaces across Delhi NCR. You will often find us at Sunder Nursery, Lodhi Art District, or bustling corners like Janpath. You just need to bring your kit and be ready to sketch.
