Art Workshops and Custom Portrait Sketching
Welcome to my space. Whether it is finding your flow at an outdoor sketching session in Sunder Nursery or getting a custom hand-drawn portrait, I believe art is for everyone.
This is what our outdoor sketching workshops are all about. We find a cool spot in Delhi, like Sunder Nursery here, and just draw. It's a super chill way to learn, hang out with other artists, and see the city in a new way.
I love using hatching to build up texture and emotion in a portrait. This piece shows how you can use simple lines to create depth and capture a specific mood, a technique we explore in my sessions.
This is my take on the classic "Girl with a Pearl Earring." Doing master studies like this is one of the best ways to understand light, form, and composition. It’s a deep dive into the techniques of the greats.
A quick ink sketch from our session at Janpath Market. I believe you can find art anywhere, and these urban sketching sessions are about capturing the energy of everyday Delhi life right in your sketchbook.
Here’s a look at my process. This is a charcoal portrait coming to life, layer by layer. It’s a slow process, but seeing the form emerge from the paper is always magical.
A quick self-portrait using a mix of blocking and hatching techniques. For me, art is a way to check in with myself, and sketching is the most direct way to get my thoughts and feelings onto the page.
Just me and my sketchbook, lost in the process. This is my happy place, finding a quiet corner to draw. My workshops are about helping you find your own creative zone, wherever that might be.
About Featured
This gallery is a mix of my personal sketchbook work and the outdoor sketching sessions I host across Delhi. I don't believe in strict studio rules. When we meet for a workshop, we focus on capturing the energy of places like Janpath or Sunder Nursery through live sketching, while my private sessions dive into the technical side, like the Loomis method or charcoal texture.
My Approach
I am a contemporary artist based in Delhi, and art has always been my way to make sense of things. Whether I am doing a hyper-realistic charcoal portrait or a quick ink sketch on the street, I focus on the 'why' as much as the 'how'. My process isn't always linear—sometimes it takes me months to finish a piece—but that is part of the honesty I bring to my work.
Workshops & Learning
I run outdoor sketching workshops where we skip the classroom vibe. We meet at heritage sites like Sunder Nursery or busy spots like Janpath to draw live. It is about learning to observe, using simple tools like fine liners and graphite, and getting comfortable with your own style.
If you prefer 1-on-1 guidance, I offer private sessions focusing on:
- Portrait Fundamentals: Using the Loomis method for accurate proportions.
- Hyper-Realism: Mastering skin textures and hair flow with graphite and charcoal.
- Medium Mastery: Learning how to handle willow charcoal versus compressed charcoal.
Custom Portraits
Beyond teaching, I take on commission work. If you have a photo you want transformed into a hand-drawn portrait, I use graphite and charcoal to capture real details. I am obsessed with getting the eyes, hair, and mood right, and I keep you updated through every stage of the process.
Tarun Kumar
Hey, I am Tarun. I use art to make sense of things when my head gets heavy. I am not a textbook teacher—I just share what I have learned from years of sketching, from my obsession with hyper-realism to those quiet moments in my sketchbook.
