Architectural Renovation in Hyderabad: Villa re:FORM
Villa re:FORM demonstrates our specific approach to architectural renovation, where we reimagined a traditional structure into a modern, tropical residence. By introducing precise lines and a cantilevered aesthetic, we transformed this home into a serene space deeply connected to its landscape.
The renovated facade of Villa re:FORM, where we introduced a system of linear pergolas and a cantilevered balcony. The interplay of horizontal and vertical lines frames views and creates a dynamic play of light and shadow.
Viewed through the surrounding foliage, the villa's new architectural layers are revealed. The timber and steel pergolas add a lightweight, modern counterpoint to the original structure, integrating it with the lush garden.
As evening falls, the warm interior lighting of Villa re:FORM highlights the clean lines of the architecture. The cantilevered balcony and lower-level glazing connect the home to its tropical landscape and bio-pond.
We designed quiet, contemplative spaces where the residents can connect with nature. This seating nook is nestled amidst lush greenery, sheltered by the overhead balcony, creating a perfect fusion of architecture and landscape.

About Project: Villa re:FORM
Renovating an existing villa requires a specific architectural sensitivity that differs from new construction. At Villa re:FORM, we focused on stripping back the original structural clutter to introduce a system of linear pergolas and cantilevered balconies. This intervention did not merely update the facade, but fundamentally changed how light and nature interact with the living spaces, effectively turning the building into a modern, breathing structure.
Our Design Approach
For Villa re:FORM, the primary objective was to move away from the conventional, static layout of the original structure. We employed a strategy of subtraction and addition. By removing non-essential partitions and introducing a lighter, more rhythmic facade, we opened the home to the Hyderabad climate. The design focuses on the dialogue between the built form and the surrounding foliage, creating a living environment that feels both protected and expansive.
Technical Interventions
The most significant architectural change involved the introduction of steel and timber pergolas. These elements serve a dual purpose: they provide necessary shading against the intense sun and create a strong graphic quality on the building's profile. We integrated a cantilevered balcony that extends the living area outward, blurring the boundary between the interior and the exterior gardens. The structural coordination required careful attention to existing load-bearing points, allowing us to achieve these floating volumes without compromising the integrity of the base building.
Materiality and Light
Our choice of materials was guided by the need for honesty and longevity. We utilized raw finishes that weather gracefully, including exposed structural elements and natural timber. This materiality anchors the home, providing a textured counterpoint to the clean lines of the new additions. Inside, the layout was reconfigured to maximize cross-ventilation and natural light, transforming dark, enclosed corners into bright, airy galleries for daily life. The result is a residence that feels entirely new, while maintaining a respectful connection to its context.
