The Story Behind Our Design Process

**The Genesis:** Our practice was born out of conversations in hostels, studios, and cafes, asking a simple question: Can architecture be more than just design? This image captures one of our early, late-night design marathons.

**2017 - Beginnings:** The year we said yes to the unknown. In a borrowed space with borrowed tools, we laid our first bricks, both literal and metaphorical, and our journey as Compartment S4 began.

**2018 - First Steps:** A year of firsts. We launched our first five projects and held our first exhibition. This was when we started testing our ideas in the real world, exploring not just how to design, but for whom, where, and why.

**2019 - Hands On:** This year was about getting our hands dirty. Working with mud, makeshift tools, and village folk across rural India, we learned that building itself can be the best teacher.

**2020 - Balance:** With one foot in the field experimenting with vernacular techniques and the other in the studio balancing infrastructure with structure, this was a year of learning, exploring, and navigating new terrain.

**Compartment S4 'All-Hands':** Our teams from Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru came together for a 3-day adventure of site visits, team-building activities, and strategic planning. These moments connect and inspire us.

**Our Services:** We are a multidisciplinary practice offering a range of services, including architecture, interior design, urban design and planning, landscape design, and research. We strive to be a one-stop solution for all things design.

**TAD50 Feature:** We are honored to be featured in the inaugural TAD 50 list by The Architect's Diary, which celebrates 50 firms in India driving positive change through design. This is the award and magazine cover.
