About Functional & Decorative Pottery
One practical detail to keep in mind is the firing process. Since we use a real kiln to fire your pieces, there is a waiting period of 40 to 45 days after the class before your ceramics are fully finished and ready to take home. Pottery is a lesson in patience, but holding a bowl, mug, or nameplate you shaped from scratch makes the wait entirely worth it.
Pottery is as much about the process as it is about the final result. At ArtVilla Academy, we focus on hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab building. These methods allow you to create functional ceramic art without needing a potter's wheel. Whether you want to make a cozy mug for your morning coffee, a house-themed lantern that glows when lit, or a detailed fossil mural for your wall, we teach you how to translate your ideas into clay.
Our foundation course in Kandivali and Borivali is designed for all levels. Beginners learn how to properly knead and wedge clay, which is the foundation of structural integrity. You will learn to add texture, carve details, and eventually experiment with glazing techniques that give your pieces that vibrant, finished look. If you make a mistake, we do not throw the clay away. We see cracks and errors as part of the creative journey, often turning them into new design elements. Our studio is built on the idea that art is a community activity. We laugh, we get messy, and we help each other troubleshoot problems as they arise. By the time you finish your course, you will not just have a collection of ceramic items for your home, but a new set of skills and a better understanding of how to work with 3D forms.
