Architecture for me is more than just structure; it is about warmth and connecting life with nature. I am Chandrakant, and this is the story of how we build spaces that truly breathe.

Speaking at an INFHRA event in 2019 on the topic of "Raising the Workplace Performance." We believe good design can have a profound impact on productivity and well-being in all environments.

During the pandemic, I had the opportunity to speak as part of the "Rebuild India" initiative by ACETECH, discussing the future of design and construction in a post-COVID world.

Our Design Philosophy & Vision

Amalgrain StudioBased in Hoodi; Projects across Bengaluru
This is what I mean by bringing the outside in. We designed this home with expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls that dissolve the boundary between the living space and the serene Zen landscape outside, creating a tranquil, immersive experience.8
A contemporary villa designed for a compact plot in Bangalore. The structure uses a clean, minimalist aesthetic with strategic lighting that gives the home a warm, inviting glow after sunset, proving that modern design can also feel like a sanctuary.
This project board showcases our design for a climate-responsive corporate office. We used composite materials and terracotta blocks, along with a specially designed roof structure, to maximize natural light and ventilation, creating an energy-efficient and inspiring workspace.

Architect Talks: My Design Philosophy

This is the 'House of Greens', a project that truly embodies my design philosophy. It was an honor to see it recognized as a finalist at the World Architecture Festival, a testament to our goal of creating homes that are one with nature.10
The heart of the 'House of Greens' is this double-height living space. By using large windows and an open layout, we dissolved the barrier between indoors and outdoors, creating a pavilion that is constantly in dialogue with the garden.
The 'House Belaku' is a celebration of light and material. The brick jali screen is not just a design element; it's a functional skin that filters sunlight, ensures privacy, and creates a dynamic play of light and shadow throughout the day.

**Compartment S4 Turns Eight:** A photo of our eight founding partners. We started as a group of friends with a shared dream, and we are proud to have grown together as a collaborative, multidisciplinary practice.38
**The Genesis:** Our practice was born out of conversations in hostels, studios, and cafes, asking a simple question: Can architecture be more than just design? This image captures one of our early, late-night design marathons.
**2017 - Beginnings:** The year we said yes to the unknown. In a borrowed space with borrowed tools, we laid our first bricks, both literal and metaphorical, and our journey as Compartment S4 began.
**2018 - First Steps:** A year of firsts. We launched our first five projects and held our first exhibition. This was when we started testing our ideas in the real world, exploring not just how to design, but for whom, where, and why.

The Story Behind Our Design Process

This building demonstrates my core belief that architecture should set the stage for the landscape to perform. Here, the clean lines of the structure provide a framework for lush greenery to flourish, creating a seamless transition between the built and natural worlds.7
For the historic Bangalore Club, I designed this L-shaped colonnade to enhance the main lawn without overpowering the 100-year-old heritage buildings. The design provides elegant, sheltered seating while preserving the site's character, using traditional tiles and local Sadharhalli stone.
This rendering for a community living project in Mysuru illustrates my vision for integrating social spaces with nature. The sunken amphitheater and surrounding greenery are designed to be the heart of the community, encouraging interaction and connection among residents.
The entrance to the Cummins Gallery in North Bangalore showcases my approach to minimalist geometry and natural light. The simple forms and earthy tones create an immersive setting, where the architecture itself becomes a piece of art, playing with the shadows of nearby trees.
