Exploring the depth of Bharatanatyam through intimate solo recitals and the vibrant energy of the Natya Vriksha Dance Collective.

This is a moment from a solo recital, where the stage becomes a sacred space. Here, I am exploring the nuances of 'Spring' through abhinaya, letting the music and poetry guide every movement. The interplay of light and shadow helps create the mood for the rasikas.

The energy of a group performance is truly unique. This is my Natya Vriksha Dance Collective performing 'Sadaaneera', a production centered on the theme of water. Achieving this level of synchronicity and shared expression requires immense dedication and teamwork from my shishyas.

An arangetram is a profound moment for both the student and the guru. Here, my disciple Anvita Jain performs her debut, supported by the live orchestra that is the heartbeat of every recital. Seeing a student blossom into an artist is the greatest validation of our guru-shishya tradition.

Abhinaya is the soul of my dance. In this intimate moment from a performance, I am interpreting a Surdas lullaby where mother Yashoda tells baby Krishna the story of the Ramayana. It is a delicate blend of singing and expression, portraying multiple characters and emotions.

Performing at a heritage site like the Sunder Nagar Nursery amphitheater connects the dance to its roots in a special way. This pose captures the yoga-shakti, the inherent power and grace that is at the core of every Bharatanatyam movement. The costume and temple jewelry complete the visual poetry.

The rehearsal studio is where the magic begins. This is a glimpse into our practice for 'Kavya Katha' with the Natya Vriksha Dance Collective. These hours of dedicated abhyaas are essential to refine the choreography and build the collective spirit before we take the stage.

It was a moment of immense gratitude to be honoured with the 'Nritya Choodamani' title from the prestigious Krishna Gana Sabha. Such recognition is not just personal; it is an affirmation of the path I have chosen and the tradition I am privileged to carry forward.

'Songs of the Millstone' is a production very close to my heart, giving voice to the stories of working women. Here, my dancers and I embody the spirit of these unsung heroines, blending folk traditions with the vocabulary of classical dance to create a powerful narrative.

About Featured

I never perform without my live orchestra; the vocalist, mridangam, violin, and flute create a spontaneous dialogue with my dance that no recorded track can replicate. Whether it is a solo recital or a group production, the synergy between the musicians and the dancer defines the emotional depth and precision of every performance.

For me, Bharatanatyam is a continuous dialogue with our traditions. In my solo recitals, I focus on the classic margam repertoire, relying on abhinaya to draw the audience into stories—whether it is the mischief of Krishna or the weight of ancient poetry. My solo work is an intimate space for improvisation, designed to connect directly with the rasikas in the front row.

When I perform with the Natya Vriksha Dance Collective, the energy shifts. We bring larger themes to life, such as our work Sadaaneera or Songs of the Millstone, where we blend classical vocabulary with folk idioms to explore contemporary and social narratives. This is group work that demands rigorous synchronicity, trust, and a shared rhythm.

Beyond the stage, the guru-shishya parampara remains the foundation of everything I do. It is not just about teaching technique; it is about mentoring young dancers to find their own artistic voice. Whether I am performing at a heritage site, a festival, or a corporate venue, I bring the same level of commitment and a full live musical ensemble. Their music is the heartbeat of my dance.

I have spent my life dedicated to the philosophy and prayer of Bharatanatyam. With Natya Vriksha, I try to bridge the gap between tradition and the contemporary, creating performances that feel both timeless and deeply personal. It is my joy to share this art form with new audiences and aspiring students alike.
