Featured Bharatanatyam Performances and Traditional Art
Welcome to my world of dance. This is a collection of moments that capture the emotion, rhythm, and legacy I carry from my mother and guru, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan.
This is the heart of my performance, a moment of connection with the audience. Dressed in traditional temple jewellery and a silk sari, I use Bharatanatyam mudras, or hand gestures, to begin telling a story.
Abhinaya, or expression, is the soul of my dance. Here are a few quiet moments where I explore different emotions, from playful mischief to deep contemplation, bringing the characters and stories of my performance to life.
The energy of a group performance is truly special. Here, my senior students from Kalangan and I perform a Tillana, a purely rhythmic piece filled with intricate footwork and synchronized movements, creating a vibrant finale for any event.
A performance is a conversation between dance and music. I almost always perform with a live Carnatic orchestra, including vocals, flute, and mridangam, whose melodies and rhythms elevate the entire recital into a complete sensory experience.
A moment of pure energy captured during my performance 'Moham'. This is the Natarajasana, a pose that embodies the dynamic spirit of Lord Shiva as the cosmic dancer. It's a challenging posture that I feel captures the blend of strength and grace central to Bharatanatyam.
This is the invitation to my solo recital 'Moham', a performance that explored themes of love and longing through the traditional Bharatanatyam maargam. I love creating themed performances for events that take the audience on a specific emotional journey.
This is me with my dearest Amma, my mother and guru Smt. Jamuna Krishnan. Her teachings are my foundation, and her spirit is with me every time I step on stage. My dance is my way of keeping her beautiful legacy alive.
About Featured
When you watch me perform, you are witnessing a live conversation. My recitals are accompanied by a full Carnatic orchestra, including a vocalist, mridangam player, flautist, and nattuvangam artist. This live musical dialogue makes every beat and gesture feel immediate and present in a way that recorded tracks simply cannot replicate.
Every performance I give is a tribute to my roots. Whether I am exploring the deep longing in 'Moham' or performing a rhythmic Tillana with my students from the Kalangan ensemble, I aim to share the sanctity of Bharatanatyam.
My work is built on the foundation of Abhinaya, the art of storytelling through expression. I spend years refining these movements, not just to entertain, but to communicate emotions—from the playfulness of a child to the devotion of a Bhakta. For larger events, I bring my senior students from the Kalangan Trust. We perform synchronized, high-energy pieces that are designed to bring a sense of vibrancy and grace to weddings, festivals, and corporate gatherings.
Because I am committed to preserving the traditions passed down by my mother, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan, I am very specific about the aesthetics of my performances. We use traditional temple jewellery, authentic silk sarees, and precise choreography to ensure that the audience feels the weight of our history. If you are planning an event and want an experience rooted in genuine Carnatic tradition rather than a generic stage show, I would be happy to discuss how we can bring that authentic energy to your venue.
