About Event Announcements
Whether I am performing a traditional margam solo or leading a thematic ensemble production, the presence of a live orchestra is non-negotiable. My team and I handle the technical logistics, from stage sound requirements to lighting cues for abhinaya, to ensure the space is transformed for the audience, regardless of the venue.
Bringing Bharatanatyam to Your Stage
My performance work extends beyond the proscenium to a variety of settings, including university auditoriums, heritage festivals, and intimate cultural gatherings. Each event is distinct, whether it is a classical solo recital or a group production under the Natya Vriksha banner.
Technical and Artistic Requirements
Bharatanatyam is a dialogue between movement, rhythm, and melody. To maintain this integrity, I perform exclusively with a live orchestra.
- Musical Ensemble: A 5-piece live ensemble is standard for solo recitals, ensuring the spontaneous interplay between dancer and musicians remains the heartbeat of the performance.
- Technical Needs: I require a wooden stage floor for safety, specific lighting rigs to highlight abhinaya, and professional sound support for the musicians.
Thematic Storytelling
I often design productions around specific narratives, such as 'Songs of the Millstone' or 'Samhita'. These are not just recitals; they are deliberate explorations of tradition and abstraction. When booking, we discuss the event's ethos to ensure the repertoire aligns with the audience's interests, whether that involves historical storytelling or contemporary themes.
If you are planning an event, please reach out to discuss the logistical requirements for my traveling party, which can range from a smaller musical ensemble for a lecture-demonstration to the full Natya Vriksha Dance Collective for larger thematic shows.
Geeta Chandran
Bharatanatyam is not just a performance to me; it is a prayer and a philosophy. I love taking these stories to new audiences, whether it’s a solo recital or a full-scale ensemble production with my Natya Vriksha team.
