Heritage-Inspired Interior Design for Modern Homes
Reimagining classic Indian elements for today’s living. We blend raw materials like brick and cane with contemporary lines to create spaces that feel grounded, warm, and distinctly yours.
An exposed brick wall, made from local 'ittige', serves as a warm, textured backdrop for a contemporary cane armchair and traditional Indian artifacts in this cozy reading nook.
The living room's media console combines modern design with traditional materials like wood and cane webbing, set against a feature wall of stacked bricks.
We love mixing textures and patterns. Here, a traditional wooden swing and sofa are adorned with embroidered cushions, placed next to an antique carved wooden panel.
A view into the bedroom, where a classic four-poster bed with an arched, patterned headboard creates an elegant and serene focal point.
Natural light filters through sheer curtains, illuminating a corner of the bedroom. The space is kept simple with a fiddle-leaf fig plant and minimalist wall paneling to complement the traditional bed frame.
A close-up of the four-poster bed, showing the turned wood detail of the posts and the subtle damask pattern of the upholstered headboard.
The elegant lines of this modern cane armchair are highlighted by the dramatic play of light and shadow against the dark floor and brick wall.
This video shows how we style a space to bring it to life. The simple act of adding plants, cushions, and decor items transforms this corner into a lived-in, comfortable setting.
A pop of color can completely change the feel of a room. This video shows how a vibrant blue chest of drawers adds a playful and modern touch to the otherwise neutral and traditional bedroom.
In this living room, we used a neutral color palette with earthy tones to create a calm and minimal space. The focus is on clean lines, comfortable furniture, and subtle textures.
About Heritage-Inspired Interiors
When we integrate heritage elements, we avoid superficial styling. Instead, we look at how traditional materials like ittige (exposed brick) or cane webbing can actually perform in a modern home. For instance, using exposed brick is not just about the aesthetic; it creates thermal mass, helping regulate indoor temperatures naturally in Bengaluru’s climate while adding texture that smooth paint simply cannot replicate.
Our approach to heritage-inspired design is rooted in the idea that a home should feel like a bridge between the past and the present. We do not just replicate old styles; we reinterpret them through a contemporary lens. Whether it is incorporating a modern jaali screen to manage privacy and airflow, or utilizing traditional stone flooring like Kota in a minimalist layout, every element serves a dual purpose: it tells a story and it enhances the built environment.
We often work with local, honest materials—timber, stone, and brick—that age gracefully. In our residential projects, this often means creating feature walls with stacked ittige (brick) that contrast against sleek, industrial ceilings or large-format vitrified tiles. This juxtaposition is where the character lies. It prevents a home from feeling like a museum piece and keeps it functional, comfortable, and relevant for modern life.
Because we handle the design-build process from the first sketch to the final handover, we ensure these heritage nods are structurally integrated. We do not apply them as afterthoughts. If we are proposing an arched entryway or a carved wooden panel, we ensure it aligns with the home's structural beams and lighting plan. Our goal is to craft a space that feels calm and familiar, where the tactile quality of a hand-carved artifact sits comfortably alongside the precision of modern aluminum fenestration.
