Workshops to Build Confident Young Storytellers
Help your child aged 8-14 find their voice. We use folktales and performance games to replace stage fear with genuine, lasting confidence.
I believe storytelling is a vital life skill. Here, my collaborator Nupur explains our 'Once Upon a Folktale' course, designed to help children aged 8 to 14 build confidence, improve communication, and master public speaking through the magic of folktales.
About this collection
In our 'Once Upon a Folktale' program, we do not just ask kids to memorize lines. We focus on non-verbal cues and voice modulation to help them inhabit a character naturally. Whether your child is already expressive or usually stays in the background, our small group format ensures they get personalized feedback to develop their public speaking skills in a safe, fun environment.
Why Folktales Work
Traditional stories are more than just entertainment. They are a bridge to understanding cultural values and human emotions. For children aged 8-14, this age is critical for developing social confidence. By exploring folktales from India and across the world, participants learn to articulate complex feelings with clarity and purpose.
What Your Child Will Learn
This course is designed to be a safe space where mistakes are celebrated as part of the learning process. We cover the foundational pillars of effective storytelling:
- Voice Modulation: Learning to vary pitch, pace, and tone to keep an audience engaged.
- Body Language: Using non-verbal cues to bring a story to life on stage.
- Public Speaking: Turning nervousness into a performance asset.
- Character Development: Stepping into the shoes of different personalities to build empathy.
Course Structure
We keep batches intentionally small to ensure every child gets 'stage time' and direct feedback. The program spans 5-7 days, totaling 10-14 hours of intensive, live interaction. The journey culminates in a final performance where children present their stories, transforming the lessons into a proud, real-world accomplishment. It is not about perfect execution, but about showing up and having the courage to be heard.
Bukmuk
I started Bukmuk because I believe stories are silent gurus for our children. Together with guest experts, I help kids aged 8-14 turn their natural curiosity into a powerful voice through storytelling and performance.
