Here I explain how we created a contemporary look for Bhavana's reception blouse using katdana, glass beads, and sequins on a brocade fabric.

About this collection

For reception and sangeet pieces, I often move away from traditional heavy Zardosi to using reflective glass beads, sequins, and Katdana. These materials catch the light beautifully in evening venues and allow for lighter, more modern structures like corset-style bodices that hold their shape perfectly while you celebrate.

Reception and sangeet ceremonies call for a different energy than a traditional Muhurtham. While the wedding day look is about heritage and classic richness, your evening look is the time to experiment with modern trends, dramatic necklines, and structural silhouettes.

Why the Modern Look?

Evening events at venues across Bengaluru, from HSR Layout to the city's top hotels, offer controlled lighting where sequins and glass beads truly come alive. Unlike traditional heavy gold embroidery, these materials provide a multi-dimensional shimmer that is perfect for photography and dancing.

Structural Details

I frequently use corset-style constructions for this cluster. These provide a flattering, structured fit that stays in place throughout the night, removing the need for constant adjustments. You will also see me experimenting with:

  • Asymmetric Necklines: These create a striking visual interest that stands out in reception photos.
  • Sheer Fabrics: Using net or tissue inserts allows us to play with illusion necklines or sheer sleeves, adding a touch of contemporary flair.
  • Drama-First Sleeves: Whether it is cascading floral appliqué or heavy latkans, I believe the sleeves are the focal point when you are holding a microphone or greeting guests.

Our Process

Each piece starts with a conversation about your venue and the level of comfort you need. If you are planning a high-energy sangeet, I will recommend fabrics and embroidery densities that allow for easy movement. If it is a more formal reception, we can lean into heavier, high-shine materials. We typically require 25 days for these pieces to ensure the hand-embroidery is finished with the precision these modern patterns demand.
