Yoga and Movement: My Personal Daily Practice
A look into my daily flow—where discipline meets intuition, and my cats are always the co-instructors.
Just a girl and her dogs, sitting on a yoga mat. My pets are a huge part of my life and often join my practice. Come join my classes for some movement and good vibes.
A typical yoga flow for me, moving through balancing poses, twists, and stretches. You can see my little black cat makes an appearance at the end. A good mood is just one yoga class away.
Beating the Monday blues with some movement. Here I am in an extended side angle pose, a great asana for stretching the side body and strengthening the legs.
Some simple morning stretches to wake up the body. A gentle flow through forward fold, downward dog, and child's pose is a perfect way to start the day, especially with a furry friend wandering by.
A dynamic yoga flow to get the energy moving. This sequence includes variations of lunges and side plank, which are great for building core strength and stability.
The Adho Mukha Svanasana, or Downward-Facing Dog, is a foundational yoga pose that stretches and strengthens the entire body. It's a moment to feel present and aware.
The Pigeon Pose, or Kapotasana, is one of my favorite hip openers. It provides a deep stretch for the hips and lower back. Remember, yoga is about getting your head out of your ass, not just tightening it.
A mid-week burn session using dumbbells and bodyweight exercises. I incorporate functional strength training like lunges, single-leg deadlifts, and step-ups to build a strong, resilient body.
A high-intensity interval training (HIIT) kind of Friday. This is a fast-paced workout with short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief rest periods to get the heart rate up and build endurance.
A simple sun salutation practice outdoors with the sky and sea as my backdrop. Practicing in nature is a powerful way to connect with the elements and your own breath.
About My Movement Journey
My practice is rarely the perfect studio aesthetic you see on social media. It is almost always a realistic mix of functional strength, intentional mobility work using wooden dowels, and a curious cat trying to steal my yoga mat.
I approach movement as a daily conversation with my body. Growing up as a competitive athlete, I learned the value of strict discipline, but yoga taught me the necessity of listening to my body—especially when things hurt or feel off. My personal practice is not about hitting the deepest expression of a pose, but about how I feel at the end of the session. You will often see me blending styles, moving from traditional Hatha and Vinyasa into Primal Flow or functional strength training to keep my joints resilient and capable.
Whether I am teaching at Golden Bead Montessori or BlackBx Studio, the goal is to make these techniques accessible to everyone, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. I rely on props like cork blocks, straps, and wooden mobility dowels to assist with alignment, which is crucial if you are dealing with past injuries or just want to avoid new ones. It is not just about the intensity of the workout; it is about the integration of breathwork and mindful movement to keep you pain-free in your daily life. If you are tired of high-pressure fitness routines and want to rediscover what your body is actually capable of, my classes are designed for exactly that. Let us find your balance, move with intention, and keep things simple.
