Empowering Community Health Workers in Maternal Care
We believe birth justice starts at the grassroots. We equip frontline health associates with practical, evidence-based skills to support mothers and families in their own neighborhoods.
Here are highlights from our training with Sangama's Community Health Associates. We focused on breastfeeding best practices, maternal nutrition, and newborn care, complete with testimonials in Kannada about how helpful the session was for their community work.
We conduct our training sessions in multiple languages to ensure the information is accessible to everyone. This video shows a session with the Gubbachi Learning Center, where we discussed teenage pregnancy and breastfeeding, with participants sharing their feedback in Hindi.
A snapshot from another hands-on training session for Gubbachi NGO's health workers. Our goal is to equip these dedicated frontline workers with the skills to provide informed and compassionate support for maternal and newborn care in vulnerable communities.
Our Annual General Meeting was a day of engaging discussions and community bonding. We believe that by uniting and collaborating with other professionals, we can create a future where every birthing experience is safe, supported, and empowering.
About Empowering Community Health Workers
Our training sessions are designed for immediate, real-world application, focusing on high-impact areas like early breastfeeding initiation, maternal nutrition, and postpartum recovery. We don't just lecture; we facilitate hands-on learning that allows health workers to navigate complex situations—from identifying nutritional needs to counseling on safe family planning—with confidence, empathy, and evidence-based knowledge.
Systemic change in maternal health begins with the people on the ground. Whether you are an NGO or a community health initiative, we offer specialized training to help your team provide the support that families truly need.
What We Cover Our curriculum is built on years of field experience and is delivered in multiple languages (English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi) to ensure the message sticks. We focus on:
- Breastfeeding Support: Teaching staff how to help mothers with latching, positioning, and overcoming common early challenges.
- Newborn Safety: Practical training on recognizing signs of illness, safe vaccination protocols, and identifying conditions like CHD early.
- Maternal Mental Health: Techniques for identifying postpartum depression and anxiety, and how to offer a listening, non-judgmental space.
- Navigating Systems: Helping health workers understand how to guide families through hospital protocols and make informed choices.
Our Approach We move away from textbook theory. Our sessions with partners like the Sangama and Gubbachi Learning Center involve interactive discussions, case studies, and practical demonstrations. We find that when health workers—from ASHA workers to ANM staff—are empowered with the right information, they can bridge the gap between medical systems and the community.
If you represent a community organization and want to ensure your frontline team is equipped with the best possible maternal care practices, let's connect.
