Experience the precision of the Iyengar tradition. Our asana practice focuses on detailed alignment, the intelligent use of props, and steady, honest effort.

A variation of Sirsasana (Headstand) with legs in Upavistha Konasana. This advanced inversion requires significant core strength, balance, and concentration.

The full expression of Hanumanasana, or the splits. This pose is the culmination of dedicated practice in opening the hips and hamstrings.

Parsva Bakasana, the Side Crow Pose. This arm balance requires a combination of twisting action, core engagement, and upper body strength.

Another angle of Parsva Bakasana, showing the placement of the arms and the lift of the hips required to balance.

A deep standing forward bend variation, bringing the leg up towards the head. This pose demonstrates extreme flexibility in the hamstrings and spine.

The full expression of Upavistha Konasana, the wide-angled seated forward bend. This pose deeply stretches the inner thighs and hamstrings while lengthening the spine.

A deep forward bend in Samakonasana (Side Splits), showing the full range of motion in the hips.

A short clip showing the dynamic entry into Bakasana (Crow Pose). The key is to shift the weight forward and engage the core to lift the feet.

Practicing Hanumanasana (splits) against the wall. The wall provides a boundary to help deepen the stretch and maintain squareness in the hips.

A black and white photo of Mayurasana (Peacock Pose). This advanced arm balance requires immense strength in the wrists, arms, and core.

About Asana Practice

You will often see me using wall ropes or metal chairs in these photos. In my classes, we do not force the body into a shape; we use these props to create space, allowing even those with stiffness or injuries to experience the full benefit of a pose safely.

My practice is rooted firmly in the teachings of Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar. We do not chase speed or sweat. Instead, we look for 'sthira', which is steadiness, and 'sukha', which is comfort. Whether it is the inverted stability of Sirsasana (Headstand) or the deep hip opening required for Hanumanasana, every movement is guided by intelligence rather than force.

At Prashant Yogashraya, we use a wide array of props including blocks, belts, chairs, and wall ropes. Many students ask if this makes the practice easier. It does not. It makes it more precise. When you use a chair to support a deep stretch or ropes to elongate the spine, you are not taking a shortcut. You are learning how to access muscles and joints that are often ignored in general fitness yoga.

Whether you join me for a weekend intensive in Jayanagar or a residential retreat at our Ramanagara center, the goal remains the same: to refine your alignment and deepen your understanding of your own body. If you are looking for a place to start or a way to take your existing practice deeper, come with a sincere intention to learn.
